An exciting and innovative drug discovery company requires an interim CFO, working 3 days per week. Based in Oxford, to support the ongoing growth of the business, there is a need for a talented and motivated CFO, initially for a 6 month period.



The company is able to onboard promising oncology projects into its portfolio in order to accelerate research and development on these projects.



The business is led by the dynamic CEO and CSO, this is an extremely exciting time to be joining the business. The company has successfully completed a first round fundraising and is well funded.



The remit of this Interim Finance Director position is broad: it covers responsibility for finance, human resources, company secretarial & general governance, legal, corporate/business development, and back-office operations such as IT and Health & Safety.



Responsibilities




  • Overarching responsibility for finance, human resources, company secretarial & general governance, legal, some corporate/business development, back-office operations such as IT and Health & Safety.

  • Key member of the senior leadership team and direct support to the CEO and CSO, operating as a trusted business partner to the C-suite, Board and Investors.

  • Responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, planning & analysis.

  • Responsibility for statutory accounts preparation, audit and tax compliance including the preparation of R&D tax credit calculations.

  • Responsibility for all bookkeeping (currently on Sage 50 Professional) and bank payments.

  • Provision of financial reporting to the business, the Board and investors/partners.

  • Identification and mitigation of risks, compliance, and adherence to regulations.

  • Oversight of the company's legal and financial obligations as well as the Company secretarial function. Responsible for ensuring good governance.

  • Support the CEO and leadership team on financing activities including contribution into business planning and strategy, scenario planning, partnering and investor due diligence.

  • Responsibility for the Company's UK benefits including share option scheme (in the process of being set up), pension scheme and any others that may come on stream.

  • Responsibility for Facilities and IT.

  • Responsibility for professional advisor relationships with the business.



Profile




  • Qualified accountant with rapid-scale, VC backed startup experience.

  • Recognised Finance Director, who is a strong business partner to the CEO/Founder whilst also being equally happy getting "into the weeds".

  • Exposure to pharmaceuticals, biotech and therapeutic R&D preferred.

  • Analytical, mathematical and data driven in approach, with advanced Excel and financial modelling skills - experience with implementation and use of robust financial systems.

  • Experienced with building best-in-class functions, including people/systems/processes.

  • Exposure to successful fund-raising activities.

  • Strong people management skills, including advising, challenging and influencing stakeholders (C-suite, Founders, Board, Investors).

As Finance Director you must have the ability to work with and support the senior management team. You must have the commercial ability to highlight the challenges and future needs of the business. This role requires an individual who can add considerable value to the CEO and the senior management team.
