An international real estate company that has developed over two million square feet of commercial space in Washington DC is looking for a senior level accountant with property management and/or real estate experience. This position will be responsible for the full accounting and reporting functions of real estate portfolios as well as maintaining partnership books for entities.  Solid accounting, communication and organizational skills are required

Job Description:

  • Responsible for full cycle accounting for corporate, partnership and operating properties entities as follows:
  • Book day to day entries and monthly recurring entries including depreciation, amortization and pre-paid entries
  • Book inter and intra company transactions
  • Calculate and books interest on inter and intra company loans
  • Prepare and maintains balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Process loan payments and works with lenders to meet reporting requirements
  • Prepare cash flow analysis and initiate account funding transfers
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Prepare and distribute excess cash flow or prepares capital calls
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and reforecasts
  • Prepare annual estimated and actual operating expense reconciliations
  • Prepare schedules for owners and external auditors
  • Co-ordinate financial audits with clients and third party outside auditors
  • Co-ordinate tax preparation with clients and third party outside tax preparers
  • Prepare lease abstracts and maintains leases in the MRI accounting system
  • Prepare and analyze cash reports and ensures funding requirements are met
  • Work with lenders and loan servicers to make loan payments and ensure reporting requirements are met
  • Provide technical guidance to support staff
  • Prepares and recommends policies and procedure for the accounting department
  • Over time, assists with software and banking administration
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Desired Skills

  • BS in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • 5-10+ years accounting experience - preferably in the real estate industry
  • Understanding of property and partnership accounting including CAM reconciliations as well as corporate financial accounting
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well with others in a diverse and fast paced environment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure while maintaining a positive can-do attitude
  • Ability to use independent judgment
  • Ability to interact positively
  • Ability to take initiative to solve problems and follow up
  • Ability to prioritize wisely
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel
  • Prior experience with real estate property management accounting software. Nexus Payables is a plus. MRI experience is required.
