JOB DESCRIPTION: FINANCE PARTNER

RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Finance Partner

SALARY GRADE: Grade 10-11

HOURS: 37 hours per week

JOB PURPOSE: To promote and provide an effective resource and information service to staff and other stakeholders, and ensure the Trust makes efficient and effective use of financial resources.

This post is eligible for a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (i.e. it involves certain activities in relation to children and/or adults) and is defined as regulated activity under Part 1 of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.

This post is designated as a regulated activity and requires enhanced criminal records check for a regulated activity (including a barred list check)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To ensure effective and efficient delivery of financial support services within the school/college, complying with relevant financial procedures, policies and systemsWork with Senior Finance Partner to support sound management of budgets for all schools within either the Trust's North or South HubSupport Senior Finance Partner in preparation and production of monthly monitoring reports for budget holdersEnsure budgets and their profiles are accurate and are presented correctly within PS Financials (PSF)Input journals for actuals, accruals and prepayments each month and ensure actuals and commitments logged within PSF are accurate and coded correctlySupport Senior Finance Partner to prepare and produce other monthly reports, reconciliations and returns for the Financial Controller, including but not limited to cashflow, bank and payroll reconciliationsProvide financial advice for Heads, Leadership Teams and other budget holders to make informed financial decisionsWork closely with the Trust's Central Processing Team (consisting of six Finance Officers) to ensure purchase orders are raised and all invoices are processed efficiently and with sufficient review and oversight to ensure payments made are accurate and aligned with purchase ordersSupport Senior Finance Partner with the effective management and reporting of debtors and creditors within the relevant HubEnsure safe custody of all cash within post holder's schoolsWork with the premises and IT teams to ensure an up-to-date fixed asset register is maintained so that it ensures accurate financial reporting internally and externallySupport budget holders by providing annual budgets at the start of each academic year and meet at regular intervals as agreed between budget holder and Senior Finance PartnerDeliver training and other support to new and existing budget holders to ensure their financial management skills improve over timeDeals with a range of external and internal contacts, making Finance Partner aware of relevant issues and concernsProduce relevant paperwork for Hub and Trust Board meetingsAttend relevant finance and external meetings in absence of the CFOAd hoc tasks and projects as requested by the CFOExpectations and Values

Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications
GCSE/O Level in Maths and English at Grade C or above

Experience
Demonstrable experience of working in a financial management role

Experience of producing and presenting financial reports with written commentary

Experience of using financial systems

Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of financial management principles

Competent use of Microsoft packages

Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and an appreciation of the implications of the Data Protection Act

Skills/Attributes
Advanced financial management skills

Ability to effectively influence senior colleagues

Effective decision-making skills and confidence to make decisions

Excellent time management skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Final AAT qualification with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience or part (year 2) CCAB/CIMA professional qualification, or equivalent and continuing professional development

An understanding of safeguarding and health and safety issues

Understanding and knowledge of how Multi Academy Trusts are financed
Sound financial accounting skills

Ability to work accurately under pressure, managing your own workload in order to meet deadline

Excellent IT skills, along with the ability to make effective use of the Trust's financial systems in order to fulfil the requirements of the role

Able to work with statistics and data

Work as part of a team and relate well to colleagues

Ability to deal with all but the most complex/challenging problems, and take appropriate action

Excellent interpersonal skills

Able to operate effectively with minimum supervision

Excellent accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information appropriately
