Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering exclusively with a growing and leading SME based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire to recruit for a dynamic and hands-on Part-Time Assistant Accountant. A progressive and permanent accounting role reporting directly into the Financial Controller, offering a 4 day per week working pattern. The role of Assistant Accountant will support the management of the finance accounting functions for the business involving producing month end accounts up to trial balance, treasury management, stock management and ad-hoc financial projects. A newly created Assistant Accountant role where you can really develop further and add value within a hands-on finance function.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve supporting the Financial controller with monthly and annual reporting including creating/processing month-end journals, managing accruals and prepayments, analysis of monthly sales, direct costs and overheads, along with preparing annual budgets and analysis. You will allocate sales and costs to various departments, support the year-end process, manage fixed assets and post depreciations. You will record bank and invoice discounting, upload invoices, debit/credit card management and reconciliations, petty cash management, forecasting supplier payments along with monthly bank reconciliations and completing/submitting VAT returns. You will be responsible for managing the company's stock accounting including monthly reporting of issues, returns and valuation; reconciliation to the balance sheet value and management of stock takes. You will support the finance assistant to manage the sales and purchase ledger processes and identify improvements on process/systems processes.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this exciting Assistant Accountant position you will have experience within a similar role, strong MS excel skills with a driven and analytical working approach. You will ideally be AAT qualified, part qualified CIMA/ACCA or qualified by experience with strong inter-personal skills and experience working under pressure to meet deadlines. You will have experience with various finance systems, be adaptable to a growing business and have the ability to work well within a hand-on finance team. It would be advantageous but not essential if you have experience with Sage 50 packages and CIS processes.
