The following position is available at the University of Valley Forge:

Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer is accountable for the administration of all financial operations of the University, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets, report accurate financial results, monitoring adherence to the budget and development of long term financial and operational strategies. This position reports to the President will assist the him in the active management of the University and will perform such specific duties as from time to time may be prescribed by the President, the Board, or by any standing or special committee of the Board.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promotes the financial well-being of the University by providing budget management, monitoring appropriate investments of temporary cash balances, exercising executive control over University budgets, and safeguarding all financial assets of the University
  • Advises the President, senior University administration officers, and members of the Board of Trustees on issues relating to the financial status of the University
  • Helps to ensure achievement of the goals and objectives of the University by overseeing the preparation of an internal budget using budget models to project future enrollment and following established policies for expenditures
  • Ensures compliance with professional accounting standards, rules, regulations, and laws by directing, supervising, and facilitating the preparation and maintenance of required and appropriate financial records, monthly and annual financial reports, and all other financial reporting as may be required by federal, state, local, or accreditation agencies, or established accounting standards
  • Prevents institutional liability in financial operations by facilitating the access of the independent auditors to requested records during the conduct of the University's annual audit
  • Ensures compliance with the institutional mission of the University by working with unit managers to develop and review unit plans, goals, and objectives, assuring development of effective business processes incorporating automation with appropriate technologies, designing systems of effective controls to guide work toward expected outcomes, and evaluating progress towards their accomplishment
  • Remains competent and current by reading professional journals and literature and developing professional contacts with colleagues
  • Ensures that miscellaneous assignments related to the Office of Finance are completed in the best interests of the University by accepting and accomplishing all other tasks assigned by the President
  • Acts as the liaison between the University and its existing and potential lenders and vendors.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of exposure to physical conditions typical of a normal office environment. Most of the job is performed while sitting, although the work may require standing or walking and/or the lifting and carrying of small objects.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of Great Plains a plus
  • Working knowledge of Jenzabar 5.0 student information system a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)

Qualifications and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
  • Expertise in current financial methodology and regulations
  • Executive problem-solving skills and the ability to organize and manage complex functions
  • Exceptional aptitude in financial activities management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to project a strong positive image of the University through interaction with all constituencies conducting business with the University, including the media
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required
  • Advanced degrees such as an MBA and/or professional certifications (CPA, CMA) preferred
  • Extensive financial and budget management experience in an institution of higher education is required
