Intertek, a leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification) Services, is looking for a Part Time 3rd party Lead Auditor to join our Business Assurance team.

The Business Assurance group of Intertek provides a full range of business process audit and support services, including management systems certification, custom supplier audits, and training. Our range of services helps to ensure customer management systems are optimized to facilitate successful growth.


  • The position will be responsible for leading and conducting third party environmental and safety management systems audits. If qualified, other potential standards may include ISO 9001, ISO 50001, sustainability verification, greenhouse gases, and first or second party audits.
  • This position will be home-based; travel throughout the United States
  • This is a part-time role; Periodically, the Auditor will be offered auditing projects and if accepted, the employee will be paid on an hourly basis for completing each project as specified in the project Assignment Letter.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the environmental or health and safety industry

  • Represent the audit team and Intertek to clients.
  • Develop audit plans.
  • Plan and coordinate team travel arrangements.
  • Evaluate clients' environmental and/or safety management systems through documentation review, onsite observation, and interviews.
  • Identify and document areas of conformance and non-conformance.
  • Write comprehensive reports and recommendations based on audit findings.
  • Evaluate and approve client corrective actions.
  • Train and mentor audit team-mates if requested.

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of BS degree in environmental science, or related technical discipline.
  • Advanced coursework, training or experience in environmental and safety management
  • ISO Lead auditor training, and specifically training to ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the environmental or health and safety industry
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of manufacturing systems
  • Experience in implementation of and/or auditing ISO management systems
  • Preference will be given to those with advanced working knowledge of industrial systems and related operational controls, monitoring systems, energy management, process safety management, etc.
  • Ability to travel 90% of the time, including by car and by plane.
  • Competency in US environmental and safety regulations
  • Expert listening, speaking, and writing skills
  • English fluency required
  • Diplomacy and ability to calmly handle confrontation
  • Sound judgment and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Time management
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge in use of Windows-based applications
  • Use of web-based forms
