Job Title: Small Business Bookkeeper

Reports to: Managing Director, Accounting Aid Academy

Job Status: Exempt, Salaried, Full-Time

Pay Range: $41,600 - 45,760

Primary Location: New Center & Remote

Summary of Job Description

As an examiner of assigned small business owner's financial business accounts the Bookkeepers' primary responsibility consists of assisting small business owners to incorporate sound financial practices; achieving healthy and sustainable financial business growth. The Small Business Bookkeeper will provide accurate transactional details, opening and closing of accounting systems, as well as, educate small business owners on proper cash flow management organization.   • Serve as a subject matter expert and examiner of assigned small business owner's financial business accounts by providing initial account setup, utilization of cloud-based accounting systems, and providing monthly close of books individual consultation services to determine an understanding of all revenue, expense, and net profit or loss
  • Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, capital, and cash flow; prepare end of quarter balance sheet, profit and loss, and statement of cash flows
  • Execute applicable accounting processes related to accounts payable and accounts receivable management, bookkeeping entries, closing the books monthly as well as preparing financial reporting and analysis
  • Support business services department, its programs, and team members in a fair, practical, and innovative capacity
  • Assist small business owners in identifying and developing sound accounting system practices and best kept secrets for moving the financial needle forward

Other Duties:
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and special project development skills
  • Familiarity with the tri-county area (Detroit-Metro) and the culture small business owners of these areas
  • Ability to work remotely, evenings, and Saturdays as needed
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and open concept environment
  • Agile, forward thinking, and willingness to engage in, and take the lead on, additional duties that are not assigned with outcomes that exceeds expectations
  • Ability to obtain Continuous Professional Education (CPE) credits, maintain applicable certifications and/or licenses, and develop a professional growth plan
  • Familiarity with multiple cloud-based accounting software

Experience and Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess all or many of the following qualifications and/or skills:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred in business administration, accounting or finance
  • 5 or more years' experience in micro or small business consulting, business tax preparation, recordkeeping, and preparation of financial statements required.
  • Advanced license or certified as a bookkeeper required
  • Expert understanding of small business bookkeeping and accounting practices for low-to-moderate income small business owners strongly desired
  • Advanced computer experience required
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office, Google applications, personal or business budgeting interfaces (i.e. Mint, PocketNest, Paypie), data collection and cloud-based accounting system(s) such as Quickbooks software required
