As the UK’s regulator for work-related health and safety, it’s the HSE’s mission to prevent employment-related death, injury and ill health. But we don’t just uphold standards in one area – we believe we should set benchmarks for the country in all we do, and that includes delivering consistently high quality financial compliance and performance.

Joining us at an interesting point in our development, your input will be felt across key projects such as the development of the new Building Safety Regulator which will implement and enforce stringent safety standards and regimes impacting on high-rise buildings, following the Grenfell tragedy.

The role

You’ll be part of a team providing expert strategic advice on financial and business performance, planning and business risk. Utilising information from our award-winning business intelligence team, you’ll provide support and challenge to senior managers, identifying and managing risks and opportunities relating to performance and value for money. Day to day, you could be involved in supporting the development of budgets, forecasts, and divisional performance analysis. Overall, you’ll contribute positively to our performance and improvements in how we deliver our objectives.

Your background

This is a development role that allows you to build on previous financial or business performance experience, which could have been gained in a public or private sector organisation. You’ll need some evidence of your ability to work with senior colleagues to deliver improved performance. You’ll also need excellent powers of communication, including the ability to present information clearly to senior audiences, both in person and in writing.  Strong analytical skills are essential, in particular the ability to assess business performance and relate it to an area’s financial situation.

Rewards

There’s a lot to look forward to here beyond the generous Civil Service pension and our commitment to flexible working. We put a high value on ongoing personal and professional development and offer access to learning opportunities tailored to your role.  You can also expect an annual leave of at least 25 days.

Our work affects people’s lives across the UK, and it’s important that our teams reflect the diversity of the society we work to protect. So we look for people to bring different skills, perspectives and experience from all walks of life, and particularly welcome BAME, disabled and LGBT+ applicants, currently underrepresented in this discipline within HSE.

To Apply

Please submit your CV, with a suitability statement of up to 500 words, outlining relevant experience and explaining how you meet the requirements of the role.

Closing date:

Apply before 11:55 pm on Wednesday 13th January 2021.
