Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU) is seeking a Controller to plan and direct the accounting functions of the organization. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for all aspects of accounting operations of the organization and its affiliates including financial reporting, maintenance of accounting records, ensuring effective compliance and internal controls, and the supervision and development of accounting employees working in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reimbursements, fixed assets, taxes, general ledger, and financial statements. This position is located in DU’s National Headquarters in Memphis, TN.

Primary Responsibilities:

•  Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
•  Directs daily accounting processes including journal entries, account reconciliations and general ledger transactions.
•  Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
•  Partner with DU’s information technology department on the integration of financial and compliance systems.
•  Recommends financial benchmarks that will be used to measure the organization’s performance.
•  Support annual budget and forecasts and provide financial analysis with emphasis on investments, cash, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
•  Participate and lead the annual year-end audit process with external auditors.
•  Files quarterly and annual reports with all relevant government agencies.
•  Coordinates financial relationships with DU’s international partner organizations:  Ducks Unlimited-Canada and Ducks Unlimited de Mexico.
•  Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
•  Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees the operations of the accountancy staff, which include financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing.

Required Skills/Abilities:

•  Excellent management and supervisory skills.
•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•  Excellent organizational and time management skills.
•  Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
•  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Excel and database/data warehousing.

Education and Experience:

•  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required. Master’s degree preferred.
•  Certified Public Accountant designation required.
•  Ten years or more of related experience required. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
•  Experience working in a nonprofit preferred.
•  Experience in a Microsoft Dynamics accounting system environment beneficial.
•  Up to 10% travel required.
