fdu's Build Out Practice is recruiting a Financial Controller to be based in Bedfordshire. Our Client is a $50m leading International FMCG business which has grown circa 20% this year and expecting similar growth in 2021. They have identified a need for a Financial Controller to bolster the Finance team and your focus will be split between supporting the business with Financial Planning & Analysis and assisting the Head of Finance with classic financial control duties.

What are my main responsibilities?

Financial planning

  • Develop and lead the annual financial planning and budget process.
  • Work with the Commercial Director to create a robust financial reporting process across the entire business.
  • Leverage SAP in the UK and utilise the input (from International entities) of all useful data (financial and non-financial); analysis of actual vs budget etc.
  • Plan at a key brand level and develop brand P&L's which you will track and review.
  • Create a sophisticated process of data collection covering for example marketing spend, sales expenses etc.

Financial control

  • Assist with the Finance team's month-end activities including reviewing P&L's and Balance Sheet reconciliations before closing month-end.
  • Support the presentation of the monthly management accounts, providing commentary on actuals against budget for the company and by Department.
  • Innovate accounting processes (SAP) and financial models where necessary, to adapt to the company's dynamic nature and International growth.
  • Help to manage cash flow and mitigate against present and future cash shortfall, providing recommendations on managing working capital.
  • Assist with the financial audit process.

What will I need to be successful?

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, or ACCA).
  • Ideally big company / best practice experience; but appreciative of how to operate in an entrepreneurial SME.
  • Strong analytical skills, possessing the desire to understand performance based on financial and non-financial metrics.
  • Technically strong in all aspects of financial control and reporting.
  • SAP (essential). Able to demonstrate the implementation of improvements which have driven efficiency and performance improvement.
  • Experience within a Product-based environment such as FMCG, Manufacturing, Retail, Logistics, Supply Chain etc.
  • Some exposure to legal contracts (i.e. distribution agreements, IP etc.) would be beneficial.

What will I be rewarded with?

The successful Financial Controller will be paid between £55,000 to £60,000 per annum.
