About the Department

Our SSE Finance function has a key part to play in fulfilling SSE's obligations as a UK-listed company, providing expertise and services that can be shared across the SSE Group, and working in partnership with all businesses to provide services tailored to their specific needs. SSE operates in a highly regulated and increasingly competitive environment, and our role is to ensure that we gather, compile, analyse and recommend on the financial strategy for our businesses, identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies and create value for SSE now, and in the future.

What is the Role?

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance Manager to provide the accurate and timely execution of general accounting, period end closing, and reporting activities, and delivery of reporting information to the wider Finance community in line with defined reporting protocols. Preparation of month end journals applying knowledge of financial and management accounting. Preparation of monthly Management Accounts of multiple entities with variance analysis.

BS account reconciliations using judgement to highlight and investigate key and unexpected variances providing supporting commentary when required and support the Finance Manager in projects when they arise. Identify and action process improvement initiatives and opportunities

What do I need?

- Qualified with a professional accounting body (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or CPA).

- Ability to work unsupervised and deliver high quality work to tight deadlines.

- Good knowledge of core financial systems and general accounting procedures.

- Awareness of current regulations including IFRS / New UK GAAP and Companies Acts an advantage.

- Proficient in MS Office applications (particularly Excel).

- Knowledge of SSE equivalent systems, processes and workflow technology.

- In depth knowledge of ERP software (Oracle desirable).

- Must be able to work independently, target focused and result driven, strong ability to bring about change, energetic and driven taking a hands-on approach and develops an atmosphere of confidence, respect, and trust, acts as a role model within the team, strong service and customer orientation.
