Our client is a high growth entrepreneurial PE backed online retailer, disrupting a market dominated by bricks and mortar operators unable to adapt to the pace of change driven by our client. Following investment into the business by a lower midmarket fund a number of years ago, the business has focused on building a high calibre team and infrastructure giving it a scalable platform that can capitalise on the opportunity that exists to consolidate the fragmented sector in which it operates. In order to do this, the business is looking to appoint a commercial, hands-on CFO who will bring rigour and structure to the finance function whilst the business continues to aggressively scale. You will be instrumental in leading business through an exit for the shareholders in the next 12 - 24 months, with an IPO as a potential exit route for the business.

As a business partner to the CEO, you will have responsibility for all financial matters relating to the business including bank relationships, interface with the PE investor, recruitment, development and retention of the appropriate resource within the finance team as well as financial reporting systems and a widening responsibility for operations. The ability to deliver transparency and visibility of business performance through commercial analysis, budget setting, financial controls, cost control, forecasting and monitoring KPIs will be paramount. You will play a full part in business planning, strategy development and commercial input on sales and marketing initiatives as well as developing robust financial models to allow the business to operate at its optimum efficiency.

We are looking for a highly ambitious, energetic, qualified accountant with experience of operating as a standalone FD or strong number two in a successful retailer, or a proven PE CFO from a stock-based business. Given the potential for an IPO, experience of working in a Plc environment would be advantageous but not a requirement. You will have a demonstrable track record in the development and application of KPIs with excellent financial and management reporting skills. A strong operational understanding within a retail environment, preferably including experience of ecommerce, you must be highly analytical in nature coupled with an informal and dynamic style with a willingness to roll your sleeves up to get things done. You will have the desire and ability to add value whilst also challenging colleagues in an effective and appropriate way to facilitate good decision making. A real team player who can work effectively at all levels within the business with strong leadership and people development skills.
