Senior Payroll Officer

The role is for 12 months Maternity cover, working mon-friday 9-5pm, (30 minute lunchbreak) 37.5 hours per week
The purpose of the job is to control and oversee the preparation of the Payroll/s for the Wye Valley NHS Trust, Payroll deaprtment and any other clients that the Trust contracts, in the absence of the NHS Payroll Team Leader. The duties within the role are to be undertaken in accordance with the necessary policies and procedures, focussing on achieving a high level of customer satisfaction.
To ensure that all NHS payrolls are processed and payments are made in accordance with agreed timeframes.
To support and co-ordinate any new Payroll projects, i.e. the Allocate E-rostering system implementation, ensuring that staff are paid correctly and reconciliation takes place between old/new systems. This will be maintained within Payroll to agreed timescales in accordance with audit requirements and creating/designing the appropriate stream lined processes and robust procedures for the Payroll Team staff members.
Management of staff benefits is also part of this roll, together with incentive and third party payments.

Providing cover for the NHS Payroll Team Leader during any periods of absence
The post holder will:
• Use persuasion and negotiation skills to engage Payroll team members with complex and/or sensitive changes in relation to process and/or service re-design, and overcome resistance to change from staff (technical and non-technical) within the team
• Communicate, in the most appropriate manner, technical and non-technical information, and sensitive issues to internal and external staff/colleagues
• Ensure effective communication of new processes and procedures inside and outside the Directorate where appropriate
• Lead training sessions under the Payroll Team Leader, ensuring any new processes/projects are supported and understood by all team members, ensuring accurate, timely payments
• Respond to any feedback from the Payroll Team, where possible resolving complex problems and dealing with unanticipated issues, escalating to the Payroll team leader where necessary.
• Help with communicating sensitive information where necessary and updating any internal procedures where necessary
• Support with the provision of advice to Managers with regards to implementing new practice/processes in relation to Payroll.
• Liaise with relevant Managers to report on the progress of any outstanding or challenging pay related situations where appropriate
