Job Details

The Associate Vice President for Central Finance and Treasurer is seeking applicants for a University Controller to provide strategic leadership and direction for the financial accounting functions. This position will assume overall responsibility for University’s Controller’s office functions.

The Controller has primary responsibility to:

  • Manage and maintain appropriate accounting, accounts payable, financial accounting and reporting, sponsored program accounting, and student organization accounting.
  • Monitor, recommend, and implement modifications to financial and accounting systems, financial policies, plans, procedures, and guidelines as well as internal controls as needed to safeguard the university’s assets.
  • Utilize Workday Finance to collect, analyze, and interpret financial data to report on financial condition of university.
  • Coordinate internal and external financial reporting and work with auditors as needed.
  • Monitor federal and state regulations and accounting pronouncements to ensure that the university remains in compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor financial compliance metrics and communicate effectively about the finances of the university.

In addition, the Controller will work closely with Procurement; Accounts Receivable; Payroll, Benefits and Tax; Treasurer’s offices and the Workday Business Analysts to evaluate opportunities to enhance processes and efficiently use staff resources. The successful candidate will have proven financial management skills with knowledge of generally accepted accounting principle and GASB, as well as a working knowledge of Uniform Guidance – 1 CFR Part 200 – Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements. A CPA designation is highly desirable in this position. The successful candidate will have exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coach, counsel, and guide staff at all levels. The candidate will have the ability to analyze problems and apply strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills. It is also imperative that the candidate have high professional standards and a personal code of ethics characterized by honesty, integrity, openness, and fairness.
