Job Details

Who you are

You have an analytical mind and a flair for financial planning. You’re enthusiastic about your work, enjoy collaborating with others and have the skills and ability to communicate with a variety of different audiences.

Where you’ll be based

Manchester/London

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for financial reporting and analysis work to support key decisions made within our organisation. Other key tasks include periodic accounting, project work such as updating our training manuals, site visits, and work shadowing. At the end of your placement you’ll be asked to put together a short presentation based on your experience of the scheme.

You can choose to carry out one or two placements, as an assistant management accountant or an assistant financial accountant. You will also be able to choose to either spend your time in our Financial Accounting Services team in Manchester, our central Finance team in Milton Keynes or one of our regional offices in London.

Why you should choose this placement

It’s a unique opportunity to experience many parts of the business while making a key contribution to important projects and decisions. Many students go on to make successful applications to the graduate scheme and now hold senior positions within the Finance team.

Entry requirements

You must be in your penultimate year and be on course to achieve at least a 2:2.

Ready to make an epic career choice?

If the above sounds like you, then apply for our Year in industry scheme now.

Company

We have big plans for the railway – and for our people

The railway is vital to Britain’s future economic success. That’s why Network Rail manages more engineering projects and employs more specialists than other UK organisations. Our work programme for the next five years will have major benefits for the whole country.

Our award-winning architectural developments are helping to regenerate towns and businesses, and we’re connecting communities with new train lines. We’re adding these to the 15,795 kilometres of rail, 2,515 stations, 32,000 viaducts, bridges and tunnels and 9,000 level crossings that we already look after.

Since we took over the network in October 2002, we’ve already helped trains run more punctually, safely and frequently than ever before. We’ve reduced costs by nearly a third, while running nearly 30% more trains each weekday.

We need you to help us

We’re ambitious and constantly evolving, which means we’re always looking for talented people.

If you want to help us make create a world-class railway, you’ll need to live and breathe our promise and principles.

We’ll offer you generous bonus, pension and benefit schemes and give you all the training and development you’ll need for the job.
