BASF's Shared Services Center in Kuala Lumpur provides functional support services to BASF companies in 17 markets across Asia Pacific. Objectives of the Position
  • Overall responsible for Finance and Controlling functions of 50:50 Joint Venture, TBPR; ensuring that services are delivered in accordance with generally acceptable accounting policies & processes, regional/ global standards, internal control procedures, legal and statutory/ tax/ audit requirements.
  • Formulate the pricing of goods produced by TBPR and raise necessary price adjustment to achieve profit guarantee defined in the Joint Venture Agreement, while ensuring minimal fluctuations in monthly results as requested by joint venture partner. Support RBU in joint venture relationship management.
  • Responsible for overall controlling support to CI LBM in ASEAN. Main tasks include planning & performance management and business analysis.
  • Main Tasks TBPR Finance & Controlling
  • Responsible for overall Finance & Controlling functions of 50:50 Joint Venture, TBPR. Manage proper books of accounts and ensure accuracy and completeness of the data.
  • Prepare reports to Local Management, Regional Business Unit and JV partners as per their requirements.
  • Analyse monthly results and plant performance. Support TBPR plant related production activities, ie. Plant Shutdown (Statutory shutdown, yearly preventive maintenance) & Inventory control (including technical materials).
  • Bring transparency to cost and business results to improve performance development. Develop cost controlling concept and monitor cost development. Monthly review of cost center report with cost center owners.
  • Responsible for TBPR joint venture standard price setting & settlement. Ensure JV settlement in accordance with Joint Venture agreement and tax guidelines. Minimise the spikes in results due to the impact of settlements and price adjustments by close engagement of plant and procurement to understand the market and production conditions.
  • Analysed completeness & accuracy of product cost. Address issues arising from product costing and initiate improvements to product costing while ensure compliance with BASF SE (ZOC) costing guidelines.
  • Partner with plant on yearly review of predetermined cost & production Master Recipe revision.
  • Drive Capex and Operational Planning activities of TBPR representing A-CIA BU in the country. Manage and control direct costs and expenses in line with the budget. Bring transparency to cost and business results to improve performance development.
  • Implement TBPR cash flow management & work closely with BMS Treasury in managing TBPR cash requirements.
  • Coordinate audit by external auditor to ensure timely completion of audit per group guideline.
  • Conduct business analysis & recommendation to local management team to support decision making for operational & projects.
  • Ensure implementation of BASF initiatives/ projects are carried with support from Toray joint venture partner and manage the gaps in opinion or conflict of interest in a fair basis to both joint venture parties.
  • Prepare & co-ordinate yearly Control Environment Questionnaire (CEQ) by BASF SE per requirement of ZFR.
  • CI ASEAN Controlling
  • Prepare reports and business analysis per requirement agreed to Asean LBM.
  • Drive Operational Planning activities of CI in Asean. Manage and control direct costs and expenses in line with the budget. Bring transparency to cost and business results to improve performance development.
  • Support regional and local projects and ad hoc requests.
  • Resource Management
  • Oversee the supervision, training, motivation, interviewing, hiring and career development of staff.
  • Delegate responsibilities, establish development measures and appraise the overall performance of the team. Coach direct reports and develop succession planning for the function.
  • Interface Management:
  • Interface between Regional Controlling, local management, functional team and local Finance & Accounting to ensure operation/ business requirements are met and issues are resolved.
  • Key focal point of TBPR for controlling and finance support rendered by BASC and BMS service platform team.
  • Job Complexities
  • For TBPR, managing a 50:50 joint venture is demanding in view of equal rights of both parties while gaps in opinion and conflict of interest are norm. Unique joint venture structure/ agreement with extensive pricing parameters and defined profit requirement complicate the billing mechanism. Influencing & negotiation skills are essential in managing the JV partners. In addition, TBPR expects the controller to be the focal point and escalation channel of BASF in respect of system and process matters.

  • Qualifications

    Requirements
    Education:
  • Degree in Accounting or recognized professional Accounting qualification, or in a related field.
  • Working Experience:
  • Minimum 8 to 12 years' experience in Finance & Accounting and Business Controlling function in a multinational organization.

  • Technical & Professional Knowledge:
  • Experience in manufacturing environment. Product costing experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Local GAAP, statutory reporting, budgeting, planning, controlling and product costing guidelines
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Good working knowledge of the F&A applications (SAP) and systems within BASF Asia Pacific
  • Independent, self-motivated. Able to perform under tight deadlines and time pressure.
