Overview of the Department / Section:

Finance is a key function of the Bank providing a vast amount of functions to internal Europe clients (Business/ Senior management), external (regulators) and global counterparts (Tokyo). The Finance function costs of around 130 people across Bank and Securities covering Treasury, Product Control, Information Data Management and Core Finance. The role will be in FP&A-IDM which consists of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Information Data Management (IDM) and Management Reporting. The role will be within the FP&A function.

Main Purpose of the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity in Finance to review exisiting processes and practices and improve the overall efficiency of Management Reporting within Global Corporate Investment Banking (GCIB).

The current management reporting is carried out in a number of large excel files, with minimal checks which are causing errors and delays in reporting to management. The entire process needs to be re-engineered.

The role currently sits in the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team. One of the team's key responsibilities is creating high quality, timely and accurate management reporting and this role is needed to carry out a complete review and re-engineer of existing processes.

Key

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain large volumes of data from various sources (Finance ledger, Managerial adjustments, Tokyo incentives) - predominantly in Excel. This will be actuals but also forecast data from the Business.
  • Carry out high level checks on the data received and validate any large fluctuations to previous month
  • Consolidate this data into one data source
  • Create a suite of monthly reports showing the data by country, booking location, product, sector, teams etc.
  • Information received will involve Revenues, Expenses, Loan Balances, Deposits Balances, Risk Weight Assets, Headcount, Credit Costs
  • The role will need to create high level finance reports to confirm the Net Operating Profit (NOP), Return on Equity (RoE) and various other key financial metrics
  • Creation of high quality variance commentary and analysis to prior year's performance and current year's budget will be key
  • The role will also involve a significant number of ad-hoc requests primarily relating to confirmation of key results (e.g. Specific team, country or sector)
  • The role will also help with forecasting, budgeting and ad-hoc analysis as required by senior management (e.g. creating a team's profitability, analysis of key transactions above a certain threshold or low-performing assets).
  • The role will review a number of key processes and reporting across all Management Reporting of GCIB.

Skills and Experience:

Functional / Technical Competencies:

  • Very strong Excel skills and be able to data mine large excel files effectively and efficiently
  • Experience working with Business Objects would be preferable

Work Experience:

  • Ideally a qualified accountant ideally with solid years working in a Management Reporting / FP&A teams within the Banking industry

Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience is essential
  • Professional Accounting Qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) - preferred
