Mō mātou - About us

Our people represent New Zealand on and offshore, and in doing so make New Zealanders safer and more prosperous. By building connections with and influencing other countries and international institutions, we advance New Zealand's interests and pursue New Zealand's values. We provide advice to the Government on the implications for New Zealand of what is happening in the world.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

An opportunity to undertake a fulfilling end to end Finance role for the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships programme just when it pivots, and realigns to a new strategic framework and operating model as a result of COVID-19 and border closures.

What does success look like as our Senior Management Accountant?

If you enjoy a fast paced environment, with no two days in the office the same, and enjoy working collaboratively with others to deliver results; this role is a perfect fit for you.

This is an opportunity to manage a portion of New Zealand's ODA investment while ensuring one version of the truth and putting good financial management into practice with long term planning, forecasting and risk management.

With border closures this is a dynamic budget requiring you to work closely with others to understand, forecast and communicate the financial implications of policy, operational and target operating model changes over the next triennium (three year budget period).

As the Senior Management Accountant, you will be the finance specialist in a multi-functional team working alongside colleagues to understand and accurately model and forecast the New Zealand scholarships programme's expenditure. Success in the role will be that 'we know and understand our numbers' with a single version of the truth and our financial management understanding, capability and confidence grows over time.

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? - Who are we looking for?/

* You will be a qualified accountant (CA membership of NZICA is preferable) with solid relevant experience.
* Familiarity and understanding of the financial reporting requirements in the public sector is essential in this role.
* You will drive all financial management processes in a multi-disciplinary team.
* You will have the ability to implement a new financial management framework for the programme which is currently in design.
* Experience of handling the requirements of internal and external stakeholders credibly within a change environment whilst challenging the status quo and maintaining good relationships.
* You'll enjoy autonomy when you develop and implement appropriate tools to ensure robust end to end financial processes for the programme.
