The Opportunity


EDF, one of the country's largest energy companies and the largest producer of low-carbon electricity, is looking for a detailed focused individual with a passion for numbers to join their Corporate Finance team as an Indirect Tax Analyst.

The primary purpose of this role is the accurate and timely preparation of indirect tax returns and the submission of these to the UK tax authorities - HM Revenue & Customs ("HMRC"). This involves running and validating reports, collating information, liaising with various parts of the business and ensuring that any queries are resolved prior to the submission of the returns to HMRC. The role also involves dealing with ad hoc HMRC queries as well as supporting internal and external audit activity. In addition, the role will provide support on indirect tax technical queries from the business and project work.

Day to day you will:

  • Prepare timely and accurate Indirect Tax returns;
  • Manage an indirect tax throughput of in excess of £2bn, ensuring risks in relation to this are adequately controlled;
  • Ensure that accounting in relation to indirect tax returns is actively managed;
  • Ensure that indirect tax risks are well controlled and that adjustment are made for any perceived control failures;
  • Seek opportunities to add value either through process efficiencies or creating value by identifying cash/EBITDA improvements;
  • Respond to indirect tax queries in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Manage indirect tax projects as appropriate under guidance of Indirect Tax Manager.

Interactions will include obtaining information, responding to queries and providing assistance with audit activity.

The Skills


The role requires an understanding of how indirect taxes operate the legislation, case law and HM Revenue & Customs Guidance. The taxes reported on include VAT, Climate Change Levy, Landfill Tax, Customs Duties, Intrastat, EC Sales Lists and Excise Duties.

  • Experience of working within an Indirect Tax team or other finance function
  • Microsoft excel skills - minimum intermediate


Desirable:

  • Experience of working with SAP financials or similar ERP system
  • Accountancy experience, in particular knowledge of balance sheet and journal processes
  • Experience of operating control frameworks
  • Experience of preparing and submitting complex indirect tax returnsPart or full qualified (CTA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent) or willingness to undertake CTA or ATT qualification
