The Promontory UK Regulatory Team incorporates a Conduct & Governance, Wholesale and Financial Crime practice, and has recently established a fast-growing Operational Risk and Resilience practice.

The team at Promontory is diverse, talented and passionate about the work that they do, there are always plenty of opportunities to be involved in high profile projects across a range of financial crime topics. As part of the Regulatory practice the Operational Risk and Resilience Associate will work alongside senior industry figures and experienced professionals.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Within your role as an Associate at Promontory you will:
  • Support the growth and development of the Operational Risk and Resilience practice in the UK.
  • Work on client engagements with responsibilities that include: drafting, revising, and presenting client deliverables, including reports, correspondence, presentations, and written deliverables such as policies, procedures and templates.
  • Lead a team of analysts to complete elements of client projects and assignments across multiple workstreams.
  • Participate in client meetings, such as presentations and interviews, which often include senior executives or directors of the client.
  • Play a hands-on role in business development, collaborating closely with our colleagues within the wider IBM firm, by helping to undertake research on specific clients and regulations, drafting proposals for clients, developing marketing materials to support our campaigns, and participating in meetings with current or potential clients.
  • Proactively monitor industry developments as related to Risk, Resilience and Regulatory matters.
  • Take an active role in knowledge sharing, thought leadership, and practice development to ensure the practice remains abreast of regulatory developments, emerging trends and business opportunities in the Operational Resilience area.
  • Support the wider practice in developing client relationships through external networking and contributing to knowledge-sharing events.
  • Support wider cross-practice and UK office initiatives where necessary.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Background in a Compliance and/or advisory role within the Financial Services sector
  • Strong working knowledge of the UK regulatory evolving regime as it applies to the Operational Risk and Resilience, and industry trends
  • Understanding of specific focus areas for regulators in Operational Risk Management covering Operational Risk, Business Continuity Planning, Disaster Recovery Planning, Incident Management, IT Risk, Cyber Risk and Third-Party/Outsourcing Risk
  • Understanding and interest in tech innovation, notably Artificial Intelligence and Cloud
  • Strong writing skills, ability to construct well-founded, clear, and concise analyses/recommendations
  • Strong multi-tasking skills balancing client delivery with business development activities
  • Aptitude to execute engagement deliverables autonomously in a fast-paced high-pressure environment, work within a team and lead small teams
  • Effective communication skills, ability to develop strong relationships at all levels


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Some understanding of operations processes for one or more financial products.
  • Broader understanding of other financial services sectors such as Retail Banking and Insurance.
  • Some knowledge of other regulatory topics, such as the Senior Managers Regime, Conduct and Financial crime.
  • A relevant Regulatory or Compliance qualification (for example Managing Operational Risk in Financial Institutions certificate).
