Tax Department

A team of professionals based in London and Frankfurt serves the firm's European tax requirements. This team comprises both accountants and lawyers and is responsible for all aspects of the firm's tax affairs, including structuring, managing and overseeing compliance, tax planning and advice in relation to remuneration and employee tax matters.

Within the London Tax Department, the Employment Tax team is seeking to recruit an associate to work on managing the firm's compliance in the area of income taxes and social security in EMEA and providing support to the Private Wealth Management division in serving its clients. The role is extremely broad and will require you to use your existing tax knowledge to assist the team as well as working on other ad hoc projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Employment Tax
  • Working extensively with various internal stakeholders on managing the firm's compliance with EMEA tax and social security rules for the 19 EMEA offices. This includes the tax and social security treatment of employment related securities, cross-border equity, termination payments and employment benefits.
  • Working with the firm's global mobility team to assess the tax consequences of cross-border moves, business visitors, remote working and short term assignments
  • Oversight for completion of the firms' annual employment tax compliance responsibilities; P11D and PSA, Form 42, Appendix 4, Appendix 5 etc.
  • Working on ad hoc or global projects such as office expansions or closures
PWM Tax Coverage
  • Advising the firm's professionals on the tax implications of the firm's businesses and/or transactions undertaken by or for the firm
  • Advising the firm's professionals on tax considerations in respect of client queries and investments
  • Providing internal tax advice and analysis of new structures, new funds, new instruments, products, private equity investments, including recommending optimal structures and providing input for internal approval process
Candidate requirements:
  • You will have excellent Private Client/Global Mobility/Employment tax experience gained from a Big 4 or Top 10 accountancy practice.
  • Experience in the taxation of UK non-domiciled individuals and expats is essential
  • You will be ATT or similarly qualified and will be looking to complete or have just completed the CTA
  • With responsibility for direct and ongoing liaison with senior management, other divisions within the firm and outside tax vendors the ability to learn quickly and manage knowledgeable stakeholders! is critical
  • Ability to operate in confidence
  • You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of European languages would be useful but not essential
