Position:           Financial Accountant

Reporting to:  Director of Operations

Organization:  An International Mental Health Organization based in NJ

Our small head office is based in NJ with our main work operating overseas in the field of mental health. We are looking for a financial accountant with 3 – 5 years non profit experience to help us continue our fast growth, working closely with all our departments. This valued member of our team should be experienced in the management of grants as well as in general accounting procedures and cost accounting.

Responsibilities include:

  • General accounting functions, specifically:
  • Accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Skillful preparation of financial statements for the $2M budget
  • General ledger and accounts management reporting
  • Trial balance, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Ensure timely completion and accuracy of annual reports and filings 
  • Provide as requested accurate and relevant financial reports to stakeholders including consolidated statements, dashboard, cash flow and forecasting
  • Prepare insightful financial analyses
  • Good control and management of restricted funds
  • Internal audits and monitoring of internal controls including field office visits overseas
  • Funder, programmatic and organizational budget development
  • Global grant compliance and variance to budget analysis
  • Responsible for keeping the organization compliant with accounting changes
  • Ability to generate and implement new ideas in the financial area

Location and Travel

This position is based in New Jersey with the option to work remotely – particularly during the pandemic. Overseas travel could be up to two times a year as necessary.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business
  • Three to five years of non profit accounting experience
  • Excellent skills in QuickBooks online and Excel
  • International experience is a plus
  • Genuine interest in the field of mental health
