Are you a change-focussed and ambitious FC looking for an opportunity where you will directly support a new FD in driving significant change?

This acquisitive AIM-listed Group is a vertically integrated specialist manufacturer and distributor with significant market share within their core markets. Their Distribution division currently has c75 sites across the UK and continues to grow through acquisition. The MD of the division is embarking on a significant program of change and having recently appointed an FD is seeking an ambitious FC to support the new FD in an exciting change orientated role.

As the Number 2 to the FD and with a dotted line into Division/Group Finance, you will play a key role in the divisional finance function and take responsibility for a finance team of c15.

Naturally this opportunity has responsibility for all the "BAU" financial aspects of delivering monthly reporting to timetable, forecasting and annual budgeting, and ensuring the adequacy of financial procedures and controls.

However, within this role, you will also have significant input into supporting the FD in several key initiatives including:

  • Improving the quality of forecasting and management information/data with a particular emphasis on improving clarity and oversight of margins, overheads and cash-flow
  • Providing constructive challenge to the existing internal control environment to identify weaknesses and opportunities for improvement within key business processes and to drive the embedding of enhanced procedures and controls
  • Working closely with the FD and MD to implement and monitor KPI's
  • To work closely with the FD to build, coach and develop the team to deliver a high performing and effective function
  • Developing a strong knowledge of IT systems (including potential new systems) and offering critical insight and suggestions for improvement
  • Being pro-active and visible out in the business to provide support and understand established practices but also to develop relationships and engage in collaborative challenge

As the ideal candidate, you are likely to:

  • Be a well-rounded and experienced FC who has the energy and enthusiasm to play a key role in the delivery of these change programs
  • Be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a minimum of 10 years' experience including experience within a group/plc environment
  • Show demonstrable career progression - preferably within a multisite retail and/or manufacturing/distribution sector
  • Have proven core skills in financial and management reporting and control, forecasting and budgeting
  • Have demonstrable experience in contributing to finance change initiatives and an ability to challenge the status quo
  • Ideally be based within the East Midlands (or happy to relocate) but also comfortable to travel and be visible in the business when required
  • Be a strong communicator and relationship builder with a wide range of both internal stakeholders (up to and including board level) and external stakeholders eg external audit
  • Have a strong eye for detail and be able to cope with large amounts of data but with the balance to ensure high level objectives are met, adopting a wider commercial view and not getting "lost" in the detail
  • Be deadline orientated with strong IT skills including Excel, Data Manipulation, KPI dashboards eg PowerBI

Package details are currently being finalised but is likely to be in the range £70,000-£80,000 plus bonus and benefits. Please note: You MUST have full eligibility to work in the UK without the need for sponsorship of any visa to be considered for this opportunity.
