Our Client, an innovative and quirky UK Law Firm with an incredibly inclusive culture, are seeking a technical and above all versatile Financial Controller to join their close-knit finance team on a permanent basis.

This reasonably young firm comprises of world-renowned practitioners, both barristers and solicitors, from various dispute resolution backgrounds and pride themselves on being one of the most exciting specialist litigation firms in Central London. The firm who strongly promote internal progression & development offer a collaborative and supportive, sector leading culture for their employees to continuously improve and challenge themselves within rewarding and fulfilling careers.

The Financial Controller is a key role for the firm. The position will report into an experienced Finance Director who has significant professional services experience and is frequently praised for their technical ability and development of junior team members. The role will encompass a varied range of responsibilities, including responsibility for all statutory and management reporting, all tax accounting for the Firm, as well as Accounts Payable and Cashiering.

In conjunction with the above the Financial Controller will be responsible for the following:

  • Preparation of the annual statutory accounts.
  • Management of the annual statutory and SRA audit processes.
  • Production of the monthly Management Accounts, including commentary.
  • Liaising with the Firm's tax advisors to ensure that the annual returns are properly prepared.
  • Responsible for the Firm's payroll (via the external payroll provider).
  • Responsible for preparation of the quarterly VAT returns.
  • Preparation of regular cashflow reporting and forecasting, and management of the Firm's funding position.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Client Money accounting. Keeping up to date with all SAR developments and being the key contact for the SAR annual audit.
  • Finance team management including Revenue Control, Cashiering and AP.

The successful Financial Controller will ideally have a strong technical accounting background within depth knowledge of the SRA Accounts rules. In addition, the ideal Financial Controller will have some experience of COFA responsibilities and fair amount of exposure in a senior level finance position.

In addition, the ideal Financial Controller will:

  • Be fully qualified (ACA or equivalent) with a strong educational background.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years' experience within the legal sector.
  • Have strong UK GAAP knowledge and experience with statutory and management accounts preparation.
  • Have strong operational finance management exposure.
  • Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have experience of legal finance systems.
  • Have an analytical, strategic and proactive approach.
