The role | Mō te tūnga

As the Accounts Officer you will have the opportunity to gain or increase your knowledge of accounting practices and apply them in real life within a government organisation. Working with a team of Finance professionals you will be mentored and coached on the job encouraging your success.

Ideally this would be a fantastic opportunity for an accounting student who has a keen interest in accounting with aspirations to progress your career towards becoming a qualified accountant. If you are not a student this could be an opportunity for you to develop your existing skills and gain experience working within government.

We are flexible with the hours and days you will work, these will be negotiated with you; it will be somewhere between 15 to 20 hours a week. There is the option of additional hours on agreement during our busy seasons and/or university breaks.

To be successful you will:
  • Be willing to learn;
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a systematic and timely approach to task completion;
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise, work well under pressure and stay calm when dealing with matters of high priority and importance to ensure the demanding needs and challenges of a busy unit are successfully met;
  • Be capable of working both independently as well as within a team, and
  • Strong customer service orientation.
