Roles and

Responsibilities:

A broad-spectrum tax role encompassing direct and indirect tax compliance, tax accounting and tax risk management responsibilities. The emphasis is on ensuring that the Group's VAT and corporation tax affairs are dealt with in accordance with current legislation and remain compliant with all upcoming changes in regulatory requirements (e.g. MTD). The role will include liaison with external advisors and the tax authorities as necessary.
The role requires a hands-on individual who is capable of rolling their sleeves up to deliver multiple priorities within tight timescales. Whilst this is a standalone role, to be successful, the candidate needs to be able to work collaboratively and effectively as part of the Group Finance team. Examples of specific responsibilities include:
Indirect Tax:

Preparation and filing of quarterly group VAT Returns (including calculation of Private Use, Fuel Scale Charge, Partial Exemption and Capital Goods Scheme adjustments). Including monthly journal posting and control account reconciliations.
Daily/(ad hoc as requests come in) review and authorisation of zero-rated sales (e.g. overseas sales, sales of adapted vehicle, etc.).

Preparation and filing of monthly EC Sales Listings and Intrastat Declarations.

Weekly monitoring and actioning of VAT exception reports.

Responding to ad hoc VAT queries from the business (for example: option to tax and CPSE's in relation to property transactions).

Corporation Tax:

Liaison with external advisors to support the preparation, review and filing of all corporation tax computations (including capital allowance reviews and CIRR).
Preparation and review of current and deferred tax calculations and associated financial statement disclosures including liaison with external advisors where required and liaison with the statutory auditors.

Administration of GPA and QIP payments.

Development of quarterly ETR calculations and tax forecasting models.

Tax Risk Management:

In keeping with the culture of continuous improvement, support process improvement initiatives and proactively identify opportunities for enhancements and efficiency gains.
Responsibility for the implementation and updating of the Group's Tax Strategy.

Responsibility for preparation of Senior Accounting Officer reporting.

Develop and deliver training, training materials, intranet site improvements and communications to promote awareness of tax issues at all levels across the Group as and when required.

Support resolution of all open HMRC matters and queries.

Provide ad hoc support to the Group Financial Controller and Head of Group Finance with all tax-related matters.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Qualified CTA.
Experience working in a Tax Accountant/Tax Manager role in industry having made first move out of practice.
Strong indirect tax compliance and reporting experience in a complex group environment.
Experience of IFRS and FRS 102 tax accounting.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to work to tight deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent IT skills, particularly MS Excel.
Past use or knowledge of CDK Autoline desirable but not essential.
Previous experience in the automotive retail sector desirable but not essential
