The Challenge

As part of the evolution of the group's finance function, the business is looking to recruit a strong Financial Controller to join our largest division to complement the well-established finance team, reporting directly to the Divisional Finance Director. The Finance Director is supported on a commercial basis by Finance Business Partners who cover the 6 business divisions, but who are reliant on information from the Management Accounts team.


This new role provides an excellent opportunity for the right candidate in all areas of control, balance sheet, systems implementation and reporting at a time of transformational change across all areas and systems in a business with a challenging transformation program.


Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing and development of the management accounts function, driving a culture of continuous improvement
  • Delivering the divisional month end management accounts process, including balance sheet reconciliation, inter-company agreement and valuation within 3 days of period end
  • Continued utilisation and enhancement across the business of new integrated finance and operational systems, optimising their use to create complete, accurate and meaningful information across the business
  • Monitoring and development of the financial and operational control environment, ensuring that minimum control standards, documentation and systems are in place to ensure that accurate daily and month end reporting from different reporting platforms can be achieved.
  • Delivering working capital, cash flow and balance sheet forecasting and reporting
  • Supporting the external audit process
  • Supporting the Accounts Receivable and Invoicing Teams
  • Supporting the Group finance function, including Tax and other Statutory compliance matters
  • Managing the payroll process from a finance perspective, liaising with HR and Payroll as required
  • Managing non sales bonus and commissions schemes and payments
  • Own the forecasts for capital expenditure, corporate cost centres
  • Liaising with corporate functions such as Master data, FP&A, Procurement, Group Accounts, Transformation teams, Treasury and Tax as appropriate to ensure issues are dealt with in a timely manner.


About You

The successful candidate will be seeking a career opportunity in a large and dynamic plc listed environment by undertaking a key finance role for the largest part of the group. The applicant will be a fully qualified accountant with previous experience of managing finance teams, preparing and reporting divisional management accounts, new system implementations and ensuring effective transactional processes. Desired skills and experiences include:


  • Fully qualified with the expectation of ACCA/ACA/CIMA
  • Ability to review and analyse data or complex technical accounting issues, drawing out key matters of significance and interpret them in written or verbal communications to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing accounts and supporting information
  • Credible and trustworthy - someone that people will listen to and take notice of - seen as a "go to" person by colleagues
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel
  • Focused on systems, processes and controls to ensure that risks are minimised and processes are scalable as the business continues to grow.
  • Experience of strengthening internal financial control processes
  • Professional level of communication in verbal and written form
  • An all round leader with experience of motivating and developing high performing teams
  • Manages pressure well and copes well with demands from a number of different stakeholders
  • Experience of Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and Workday would be advantageous
