The Finance manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial, administrative and clerical services to ensure the effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operation within the business. The Finance Manager must comply with the Finance Act, GAAP and all other relevant legislation applicable to finance operations within the UK.

The Finance Manager reports to the Managing Director and is responsible for ensuring accurate completion of financial, administrative and clerical services. This includes checking, reporting and authorising payroll, supplier payments, invoices and journals within set deadlines.

The role of a financial controller involves overseeing the accounts department and making sure everything runs smoothly, there will also be a strong emphasis on overseeing the human resource department from a controlling point of view.

As a small organisation it will be your responsibility to carry out the administrative tasks, you will be ensuring smooth running of the company's financial department and your daily to-do list will feature some or all of the following:


• Analysis of the books


• Debtor and creditor management.


• Reporting to Management in both UK and Italy.


• Producing accounts in line with group policy and deadlines.


• Produce monthly management results for submission to the Group


• Prepare reports for year-end auditing
• Overseeing all tax and regulatory/compliance issues


• Produce short term cash forecast and manage cash day to day.


• HR functions including payroll and admin issues


• Controlling of company policies and procedures


• Managing Company Secretarial matters.

Beyond the financial function, there is an opportunity to further develop the company's HR requirements as well as dealing with more general management and administrative matters including Health and Safety.

Summary of Principle Accountabilities:


• Check and authorise all sales and purchase invoices, oversee credit control, monitor all basic accounting processes


• Process month end trial balance, reconcile all balance sheet accounts and produce detailed management accounts


• Monthly reporting package to complete for presentation to Managing Director, including comparisons to budget and variance analysis


• Monthly, quarterly and annual Group reporting using Hyperion system


• Produce detailed annual budget and 5 year forecast in line with group policies


• Manage annual audit process and ensure completed within tight time frames


• Manage stock control with rolling inventory, investigating variances, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Group stock provision policy


• Statutory reporting, including payroll, VAT, Intrastat, EC sales and Company Secretarial returns


• Supervise HR function, review policies, check and authorize payroll, investigate grievances

Skill set and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Financial Controller role will be able to pick things up quickly and manage multiple tasks at any one time.

They will also have the following attributes:


• Comfortable doing a lot of detailed work; with ability to work to a high standard and within tight deadlines


• Goal orientated;


• Proactive and task orientated


• Advanced Excel user and proficient with MS office products


• Familiarity with Lotus Notes, JD Edwards (Enterprise One) and Hyperion desirable


• Knowledge of Sage - Payroll


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals in a diverse environment


• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures


• Consolidations and group reporting
• CIMA qualified or equivalent


• Proven work experience at Finance Manager level, with 5+ years overall finance and accounting experience
