My client is a privately owned downstream Oil & Gas/ Power Group, currently back by two major Oil & Gas/Infrastructure investors, with plans to obtain a full listing on the Nasdaq by Q1 of 2021


Job Summary

The Chief Accounting Officer ("CAO") oversees the global accounting department and is responsible for developing and setting the short-term and long-term strategic direction for the global accounting function. The CAO oversees general ledger functions including accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with US GAAP. The CAO will manage the accounting department to ensure accurate and timely consolidation and reporting of financial results in accordance with US GAAP. The CAO will also manage the external audit process and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities


• Establishes and executes the strategic direction of the accounting department.


• Accounting and GAAP expert and liaison to Executive Leadership, the Board of Directors the Audit Committee, and the SEC.


• Establishes and maintains the processes and infrastructure necessary to ensure accurate and timely recording, processing and reporting of financial results in accordance with GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.


• Implements process improvement and automation to improve work efficiency and workflow, including the conversion to a cloud-based ERP system.


• Manages the preparation and filing of audited and unaudited statutory accounts for regulatory and tax filings.


• Provides operational tax support to the tax function.


• Ensures internal controls are designed effectively and operating as designed for the process within the accounting department.


• Ensures compliance with overall SOX 404 guidelines.


• Establishes a process to ensure proper preparation, review and approval of account reconciliations.


• Oversees establishment and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency in communication and reporting of information throughout the company.


• Prepares monthly financial results and partners with the planning and analysis function regarding variances to plans and forecast during the month-end close process.


• Researches and provides proper accounting guidance on various transactions undertaken by the business.


• Offers thought leadership for projects of strategic importance to the company (accounting system upgrades, new pricing systems, loyalty program enhancements, etc.).


• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education


• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.


• Certified Public Accountant


• MBA in accounting or related field a plus.


Experience


• 15+ years increasingly responsibility in public accounting and/or financial accounting experience.


• 5+ years managerial experience.


• Big 4 public accounting experience a plus.

Essential Skills


• Strong knowledge of finance, policies and processes, including multi-currency consolidations, SEC reporting, and Sarbanes-Oxley.


• Expert-level knowledge of corporate accounting and GAAP.


• Willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and assist, in addition to managing.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve processes.


• Effective time management and organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and to manage multiple priorities.


• Proficiency with a large ERP system and extensive general ledger.


• Strong leadership skills.


• Strong communication skills


Desirable


• Fluent Portuguese speaker. Occasional travel to Brazil will be required
