We have an exciting opportunity to join the Financial Reporting team at the Coventry as our Head of External Reporting.

You'll be responsible for the end to end production of all external reporting including the Annual Report & Accounts and our Summary Financial Statements. You'll also be responsible for our accounting policies and financial reporting control framework in addition to leading our external audit process.

This is a key leadership role within finance, with exposure to senior management and executives across the organisation and interaction with Board members. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the Society to deliver best practice corporate reporting and drive a culture of continuous improvement.

As an excellent communicator and you'll portray key messages effectively, including those relating to detailed technical accounting. You'll be a qualified accountant with extensive experience and a deep understanding of financial statements, relevant for the Financial Services sector. You'll be passionate about applying the principles of Fair, Balanced & Understandable in external financial reporting.

You'll ensure that our reporting is comprehensive and you'll actively seek benchmarking and insights to shape the vision of our future reporting. You'll be responsible for the control framework for financial reporting, and will work with stakeholders across finance to identify and implement control improvements as required. This includes collaborating with finance and Society change initiatives to ensure that financial reporting process improvements are achieved.

You'll lead a team and be responsible for the ongoing engagement and delivery of the team including colleague development and recruitment as needed.

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience including experience of leading an Annual Report & Accounts process. You'll have a strong understanding of financial reporting requirements and technical accounting standards relevant for the Financial Services sector, ideally relating to IAS 39 / IFRS 9 but potentially other key reporting standards such as IFRS 15 or 17.

You'll be able to develop effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and communicate effectively through highly developed written, verbal and presentation skills. In particular, you will be highly skilled at developing financial communications which tell the story in a simple and straightforward way. You'll be highly organised and capable of engaging with stakeholders to see through the end to end reporting process.

You will understand key risks and controls relating to financial reporting processes and you will be able to apply this understanding in order to identify and implement required improvements across the end to end financial reporting process.
