About the role:
This role will provide asset accounting expertise and broader finance support to the Finance Capex Investment team, as well as the wider capital delivery community. The role delivers some regular monthly reporting, and develops financial and project governance controls as part of a small team. This role will be responsible for relevant external audit and regulatory accounts processes from both an assets and projects perspective, as well as various ad-hoc projects supporting business change. In addition this role provides key support and systems expertise to drive process improvements in accounting and reporting on Thames' £16bn fixed asset register and associated annual capital programme expenditure of c.£1bn.

The role provides a great opportunity to use your technical accounting, systems and collaboration skills to become a valuable and respected member of the Finance community. Your keen eye for detail and your passion and commitment to continuous improvement will help us achieve our goals and open up a wealth of career possibilities at Thames Water.

Key Accountabilities:
Supervision of the Fixed Asset Register including the lead schedule, key balance sheet accounts, depreciation reporting, and stewardship of the Asset Module within SAP. Provide key support for initiatives such as UEL reviews, investment papers/projects requiring new asset class structure, and helping shape future policy.

Working with the team to ensure that regular statutory, regulatory and management reporting for investment projects/assets is robust, timely and accurate. Develop and enhance processes to support the reporting cycle. Own and produce audit deliverables for the half-year and year-end external audits and any corresponding analysis related to assets.

Responsibility for specific capital accounting, asset or investment project detail analysis or queries arising from our Investment Committee, or as part of business as usual/monitoring and control activity. Work across the team to support the business with fixes and queries on accounting treatment including IFRS treatment of opex/capex spend and depreciation.

Supporting a shift towards embracing newer tools such as SharePoint/Teams sites and process automation to reduce data handling, standardise and streamline reporting. Tackle changing demands from stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service and developing effective working relationships across the business.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
This role will provide an opportunity to apply your strong accounting and systems skills to implement process improvements in key areas such as controls and automation. You will develop solid relationships with key stakeholders, use your initiative, and engage with the wider business to add value and deliver key outputs.

This role requires a positive, creative, results-driven mindset to tackle evolving reporting demands. You must be a qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA or equivalent) with strong analytical and excel skills. In addition, strong team-working and interpersonal skills are needed to articulate and influence a variety of accounting and regulatory issues to a range of stakeholders. You must be an experienced user of a range of finance systems tools (ideally including SAP). The successful candidate will become a subject matter expert, representing Thames Water to both internal and external stakeholders, so first-rate communication skills and a thirst to learn are also required. Experience of working in a utilities/water organisation is desirable but not essential.

What's in it for you:
A great opportunity to make a first move into (or generally gain experience in) a large finance team in a blue-chip organisation. We'll put you in contact with some of our most senior stakeholders and you'll be a pivotal and highly valued member of the team.
Our competitive salary package includes an excellent contributory pension, 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with length of service and a wider benefits scheme. This includes an annual pay review, season ticket loans, voucher scheme giving you money off in major retail outlets, loyalty awards for continuous service plus much more, including our referral scheme, where you can receive £750 for helping someone get a permanent position within the company.

We're also proud to be here for our local community, offering two days paid volunteer leave a year, as well as proudly supporting a lot of local events and charities.
