Your new role
Southend Borough Council are currently looking to recruit a dedicated full-time School Finance Service Officer. As a School Finance Service Officer, you will be working as part of a small dedicated team, who work with and support both the local authority's-maintained schools, and a suite of academy schools as part of a financial traded services agreements. You will deliver a comprehensive financial advice service to schools on an income generating basis.

The role requires you to provide headteachers, and governors with the accounting knowledge and expertise to enable them to manage their budgets to comply with correct accounting principles. Detailed monitoring of school budgets. You will prepare and deliver training courses for Headteachers, Governors and school finance staff. You will carry out monthly/quarterly monitoring against revenue and capital budgets and investigate where necessary, report variations to the appropriate school member of staff (Headteacher or finance staff) adhering to strict deadlines.


What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you need to have strong communications skills and great interpersonal skill as you will be liaising with various stakeholders. The successful applicant with need to be confident, polite and professional in direct face to face contact with the Schools, and a committed team player. Candidates with strong and relevant accounting background will be ideal for this role

It would be an advantage if the applicant has experience working within a school finance environment however this is not essential. Being able to work well as part of a team is essential, whilst also being required to demonstrate their ability to work independently, make decisions for themselves and to manage their own workload. Ability to use computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets and databases is essential for this role.

Your application will not be considered if you are not a qualified Accounting Technician (AAT).
