The Position
This opportunity is an initial 7-8 month fixed-term contract covering for maternity leave. As a Senior Payroll Officer you will own the entire payroll function end-to-end and ensure people are paid accurately and on time.
Responsibilities:
- Manage payroll & pay our people (perm, temp & contract) including standard inclusions, variable inclusions (overtime etc.) & employee requests (e.g. salary sacrifice, packaging)
- Manage Workers compensation, payroll tax (incl. lodgment and calculation), Superannuation, Kiwi Saver, leave entitlements, Fringe benefits, etc.
- Prepare, balance & reconcile all accounts (e.g. superannuation, leave liabilities, PAYG etc.)
- Interpret Awards, legislation (e.g. super, LSL, redundancy, termination, etc.), policies & contracts
- Prepare management and statutory reports
- Assist Business Unit Owners with forecasting of Annual leave costs
- Oversee, run and/or assist with annual and periodic processes, like remuneration reviews, performance reviews, WGEA reporting, annual salary surveys, Variable Rewards, salary packaging & benefit programs
Skills & experience
- Previous experience working as a Senior Payroll Officer in small to medium environments, ideally involving paying permanent, temporary and contract professionals.
- Experience handling payroll for employees in Australia & New Zealand in a stand-along position
- Previous experience running periodic activities like remuneration reviews, performance reviews, salary survey submissions and results, WGEA reporting, etc.
- Understanding of configuration & use of payroll systems (ideally Employment Hero and Astute)
- Sound knowledge of Australian and New Zealand payroll landscape & legislation (inc Fair Work, Modern Awards, tax implications, leave, etc)
- Strong data analysis skills (ideally expert Excel user) & numerical accuracy
- Previous experience with payroll implications of Mergers and Acquisitions highly regarded
- Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent work experience) in Business, Finance study &/or Payroll
