The Opportunity
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), assisting the CEO and the wider Executive team with the successful delivery of business success. The CFO is the executive responsible for supporting governance and making informed financial decisions that align with the organisation's strategic objectives, requiring a keen understanding of both internal dynamics and external factors impacting upon the organisation. Through delivering timely financial data and insights, the CFO will oversee budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning, ensuring resource allocation and directing risk management efforts to maintain financial sustainability and responsiveness to emerging opportunities and challenges. As a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO, ELT, the Risk & Audit Committee, and the Board, the CFO will foster collaborative partnerships that drive long-term financial sustainability and organisational impact. This position plays a critical role in financial planning, fund management, reporting, and forecasting, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory frameworks while identifying opportunities for financial sustainability beyond government funding.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Play a key role in the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), driving overall business growth strategies and leading initiatives in Finance, Assurance, Risk, and Governance.
- Provide strategic review, analysis, and recommendations to improve profitability and align financial strategy with organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with the ELT to develop and articulate business plans and strategies, identifying and delivering new business opportunities.
- Lead and manage the Finance & Assurance team, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial, accounting, and quality reporting.
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, including cost identification, revenue/expense analysis, and liquidity management.
- Oversee long-term financial forecasting (3+ years) and cost management aligned with strategic planning.
- Serve as a key governance and financial business advisor to the CEO, ELT, and Board, driving continuous business improvement.
- Develop and manage annual budgets and performance/revenue targets, ensuring alignment with operational plans.
- Oversee financial resources within budget guidelines, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Lead financial performance reporting, business analysis, and forecasting, ensuring financial insights are available for the CEO, Board, and leadership team.
- Provide expert financial advice to the CEO and senior executives on all aspects of finance, treasury, and capital management.
- Develop and oversee a capex investment roadmap, ensuring capital expenditures align with business priorities.
- Implement and manage internal financial controls to ensure accuracy, fraud prevention, and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Lead the monthly forecasting process, monitor budget variances, and present financial performance metrics to key stakeholders.
- Oversee fundraising governance, ensuring DGR status compliance and transparent management of financial gifts and donations.
- Champion the development and maintenance of the financial quality management system, ensuring compliance with audit and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory financial reporting, including taxation, corporate governance, and fundraising laws.
- Lead legal compliance initiatives, coordinating external legal advice where necessary.
- Ensure the organization remains audit-ready at all times, particularly in relation to grant funding and revenue provider compliance.
- Ensure comprehensive insurance coverage across all business activities, including leading annual insurance renewals.
- Provide oversight and advice to leadership and staff regarding insurance policies, risk assessments, and liability management.
- Maintain strong relationships with insurance brokers, ensuring adequate and cost-effective coverage across all areas of operation.

Minimum Requirements:
- CA or CPA qualification (or relevant tertiary degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or Economics)
- Proven experience in financial governance, risk management, and compliance
- Strong ability to translate financial data into strategic business insights
- A leadership style that builds trust, collaboration, and engagement
- Experience advising Boards and Executive teams on financial sustainability
- Passion for working in a purpose-driven and values-led organisation
- Previous CFO or senior finance leadership experience within a corporate, commercial, or mixed-industry background
- Not-for-Profit (NFP) experience or an understanding of funding models and financial governance
- Experience managing cost allocations, budget forecasting, and risk management
