Our client, market leader in the Engineering - Project Management Sector is looking to hire a Project Accountant based in Sandton
The Project Accountant will be instrumental in managing the company's financial operations. This role includes preparing financial statements, analysing financial data, generating monthly reports, and ensuring adherence to accounting standards. Additionally, the Project Accountant will work closely with various departments to support financial planning, budgeting, and strategic decision-making
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare management accounts, project reports, and project cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standardsConduct financial analysis, including variance, profitability, and trend analysis, to provide actionable insights and recommendationsGenerate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholdersAssist in preparing regulatory filings, such as tax returns and government reports
Management Accounting, Project Reporting & Reconciliation
Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data for management accounting and project reportingPerform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliationsConduct regular account reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies promptlySupport the implementation and enhancement of accounting processes and internal controls
Budgeting & Forecasting
Collaborate with the finance team to develop bi-annual budgets and periodic financial forecastsMonitor actual financial performance against budgeted targets and provide variance analysisAssist in preparing budget reports and presentations for the Executive Committee and key stakeholdersSubmit bi-annual budgets to the group companyOffer recommendations to optimize costs and improve expenditure management
Banking
Verify bi-monthly payments for approval and processingConduct Forward Exchange Contract revaluation for managerial review
Accounts Receivable
Prepare and issue debtor invoices and statementsPerform month-end and year-end closing activities for Accounts ReceivableConduct monthly accounts receivable revaluations within the ERP systemPrepare weekly and monthly debtor reports for internal stakeholders
Costing
Perform project cost accounting, including budgeting and cost tracking, for managerial reviewWork with project managers and cross-functional teams to develop project budgets and cost estimatesAnalyse project costs monthly, comparing actual expenditure against budgets, and provide variance analysis reportsUpdate contract costing in the ERP system
Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure adherence to relevant accounting principles, standards, and regulations.Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanationsAssist in implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets
Teamwork, Development & Training
Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies and proceduresCollaborate with teams across finance, engineering, commercial, and drawing office functions to resolve accounting-related issues and enhance financial processesStay updated on changes in accounting regulations and apply them as necessary

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, CIMA or related field
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Management or Project Accounting, preferably within the engineering or metallurgy industry
- Experience with financial software and ERP system

- Strong proficiency in financial analysis and financial reporting
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office applications
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical abilities with a problem-solving mindset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
