About Risk
Our Risk team evaluates all types of risk across the organization, including strategic, operational, financial and regulatory risk. Supported by our superior risk culture, as well as cutting-edge tools, methodologies and models, the Risk team manages enterprise risk and governance - identifying, assessing, measuring, mitigating and reporting risks, to ensure the continued success and stability of the organization. Our Risk and Underwriting teams work collaboratively using an Integrated System to represent and aggregate risks. It is this integrated approach that makes RenaissanceRe so different. Our development and implementation of robust risk management strategies protect our company, our employees, and our stakeholders.
Oversight of underwriting risk is critical to the second line of defence, and the team is responsible for providing oversight and advice to support the first line in writing and managing their risk. We play an essential role by providing comfort to Senior Management and the Board that processes, data and reports are appropriate for business use, and in providing recommendations to the business to promote ongoing improvement. We are a key partner and trusted advisor to our business stakeholders, enabling growth through appropriately managed risk.
About the Position
This role will be responsible for supporting the VP, Risk Oversight Analytics in delivering risk oversight reviews, summaries and analytics covering multiple aspects of the business.
Aspects of the business within scope include but are not limited to reviews of underwriting risk representation within our risk and exposure management system; validation of internal catastrophe models and views of risk such as natural catastrophes, casualty, terror, aviation and more; and reviews of new modelling capabilities. Initial focus will be on underwriting risk but may expand in the future to other risk categories, for example, market and reserving risk.
This role will provide support to the VP, Risk Oversight Analytics in reviews that will typically follow a pattern of data/process discovery; analysis to identify outliers and questions for stakeholders; reaching out and reviewing the findings with stakeholders; writing up the results and any recommendations. Working with stakeholders is a key part of these reviews including working with them to develop findings. The level of detail in communication of the findings will vary depending on need, with opportunities to assist in very high-level email summaries; to walking key parties through the analysis; to short reports summarising the work done and findings/recommendations; to longer form reports including detailed findings and recommendations.
The role will report into the VP, Risk Oversight Analytics, who will define and develop the process for each type of review (e.g. underwriting risk representation, catastrophe model validation etc.), provide support and guidance on the execution of the process and reviewing the output.
The aim of these reviews is to work collaboratively with the business to ensure ongoing improvement of Group business-related activities and decisions and to provide comfort to the Business, Committees and Boards, the Head of Risk Oversight and Group CRO as appropriate. It requires the ability to learn quickly about a broad range of topics including business functions, technologies, data, process and more. The reviews will often be done across the Group and hence will require speaking to numerous individuals from multiple offices and countries to understand processes and how models and systems are being used.
