The Company

My client is a privately owned NZ business that currently employs circa 50 staff. The business was purchased in 2017 by the current shareholder and has a dynamic, smart and energetic CEO who is very future focused and is someone who will lead this company to disrupt the industry. The company is based in Ngaruawahia and is a great place to work with a fun and social atmosphere where people are driven to succeed but at the same time relaxed and family focused.

The Role

The role of Finance Manager will report to the Head of Finance and has been created to allow him to be freed up to strategically support the business and have this role manage the day to day finance function. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the month end close, providing insights and commentary on performance and making any recommendations as required
  • Ensure all tax and statutory compliance requirements are met including GST, FBT and provisional tax
  • Assist the Head of Finance with budgeting and forecasting
  • Manage the entities cashflow - including forecasting, foreign currency and day to day banking requirements.
  • Ensure all Balance sheet items are reconciled
  • Business partner Heads of departments and support them with insights and analysis to increase performance, identifying opportunities to improve
  • Manage the two clerical staff and roll up the sleeves as required to help out.
  • Oversee the payroll function
  • Ensure the business systems and processes are maintained
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

Your profile:
  • To be considered for this role, we are looking for a Qualified or equivalent Accountant who can demonstrate the following:
  • Proficient and proven experience in managing the month end close for a similar size business
  • An ability to engage with the business and be involved - not just do the pure accounting in a back office function
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A nice genuine person
  • An analytical mindset where you like to learn and question as why we do things and how can we improve
  • Happy to roll up the sleeves, pitch in as required but also take ownership and look for improvements
  • A Can do attitude.

This role is based in the office but can offer a family friendly environment to work within. You don't have to have had prior staff management experience as this is an experienced team who all know their roles. However it would be an ideal first staff mgmt. role for those who haven't been in a FM role previously and are looking for that first step.
