Anderson Knight are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our clients busy finance team in North Lanarkshire. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with background in property management. As part of our team, you will play a key role in managing day-to-day financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. The role is office based and offers a competitive salary of £28-30,000 per annum.

Key
Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate calculation and timely submission of VAT returns, maintaining compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Reconcile all bank accounts on a regular basis to ensure accuracy in financial reporting and identify any discrepancies or issues.
- Accurately process accruals and prepayments, ensuring that all costs and revenues are accounted for in the correct period.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and preparing accounts to the trial balance stage for year-end preparation.
- Oversee the sales and purchase ledger functions, ensuring that all invoices are processed, posted, and reconciled correctly.
- Monitor outstanding invoices, liaise with clients to ensure timely payment, and take appropriate action to reduce aged debtors.
- Manage the collection of direct debits from clients and ensure payments are processed and reconciled. (Non-essential, but beneficial)
- Support with CIS returns and deductions for subcontractors, ensuring compliance with HMRC’s CIS regulations. (Non-essential, but beneficial)
Key Skills and Experience Required:
- Proven experience in a similar bookkeeping or accounting role.
- Strong understanding of VAT, accruals, prepayments, and trial balance preparation.
- Experience with credit control and managing sales/purchase ledgers.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, etc.).
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
