Director of Finance

The Local Government Reform Act (2014) introduced the most radical reform to the structure of the Irish local authority sector for over a century. Following the local elections in 2014, the number of local authorities in Ireland was reduced from 114 to 31, including the abolition of all town and borough councils.

County Laois is located in the province of Leinster and has a population of 91,877 persons (2022 Census). This represents an actual increase of 7,180 or 8% since the last census in 2016.

An opportunity now exists in Laois County Council for the position of Director of Finance.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance will lead and manage the finance function within the Authority.  As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Finance may also have other responsibilities in the overall management of the Authority.  As a key member of the Senior Management team, the successful candidate will be required to make a valuable contribution to the strategic management of the Finance function as well as provide a high level of independence and objectivity.
