The primary responsibility of the Trading Accountant is to ensure accurate and efficient financial management, reconciliation, and reporting related to trading activities within the organisation. This involves maintaining daily cashflow, balancing metal accounts, managing supplier interactions, and performing trade operations accounting. The role also focuses on ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements, optimising cash flow, and supporting the financial planning process.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Trade Capture and Valuation: Ensuring that all trades are accurately recorded and valued in financial systems, based on relevant market prices and accounting standards
- Revenue and Profit Analysis: Monitoring, calculating, and reporting the profitability of trades, including any gains or losses realised from trading activities
- Hedge Accounting: Managing the financial impact of hedging strategies, ensuring that hedges are properly documented and accounted for according to applicable accounting standards
- Risk Management: Supporting risk management by providing accurate financial data related to trading positions, including exposure to currency, commodity, or market price fluctuations
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all financial reporting related to trading activities complies with relevant regulations and accounting standards
- Reconciliation: Performing regular reconciliations between trading systems and financial records to ensure consistency and accuracy, including customer and distribution clients and suppliers
- Financial Reporting: Preparing and providing detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders, including P&L reports, balance sheets, and cash flow statements related to trading operations
- Customs Documentation: Ensuring that all required customs documentation (e.g., invoices, certificates of origin, UCR numbers) is correctly prepared and submitted
- Customs Reporting: Preparing and submitting required customs and regulatory reports, such as VAT returns and export declarations
- Cost Analysis and Efficiency: Reviewing the costs associated with trading and ensuring the efficiency of trading activities
- Warehouse Transfers: Manage warehouse transfers of metals from suppliers to exported customer warehouses
- Daily Metal Balancing: Manage and maintain the daily balance of metals for exports and local sales
- Sales & Deliveries: Ensure the correct refining fee is charged according to supplier contracts. Coordinate metal deliveries for both external and local sales
- Daily and Monthly Cashflow Maintenance: Ensure cash flow data is updated and monitored regularly
- Continuously monitor and update the cash flow in line with the production plan
- Coordination with Production: Participate in daily meetings with production teams to plan metal deliveries and distributions (both internal and external) to assist in cash flow allocations for supplier payments and general commitments
Desired Experience & Qualification
Non-negotiable:
- Relevant Tertiary Accounting, CIMA or Analytical Qualification
- 5+ years' relevant experience of accounting and/or booking trades, working back office
