Job Description :
Purpose of the role:
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the markets' indirect tax processes (including VAT, customs & excise duty, environmental tax and other supplementary returns) are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.
The role will support the successful implementation and ongoing operation of the Global Indirect Tax processes, controls and automation tools under the new Tax Operating model.
Job Dimensions:
Scope of role covers Preparing VAT, customs & excise duty, environmental tax, and connected supplementary returns and reports, viz. EUSL, Intrastat etc.
This requires interaction with the fellow colleagues such as Indirect Tax Analysts, Seniors and Leads, a number of functions including both markets and central functions with a special focus on financial controlling teams, Source to Pay and Order to Cash. The role will have a direct conversation with Tax business partners and Regional SMEs relevant for her/his area to provide support in audits, project and other continuous improvement related topics.
The areas of the business you will support and who you will work with are:
- Tax Business Partners and Tax Governance and Reporting to support the risk management agenda, audits and indirect tax related projects.
- Financial controllers especially in connection with journal entries, managing B/S reconciliations.
- Global Tax and key stakeholders such as tax authorities/STP/OTC to effectively manage the tax risks for your markets.
- CARM, GAR and External auditors to ensure tax controls and processes are understood and delivered to meet CARM satisfactory standards and SOX controls under the broader Tax Control Framework.
Role is part of Global Tax. Role has responsibility for carrying out the Indirect Tax compliance preparation for the markets under her/his responsibility including the execution of process improvements thereof.
What you will be responsible for:
- Preparing complex returns of VAT, customs & excise duty, environmental tax and connected supplementary returns in accordance with global standard process and controls, utilising automation tools where applicable.
- Posting of Journal entries in SAP either directly or via Oswald portal, with accuracy, with monthly regular frequency for categories such as GL clearing, PC clearing, Tax adjustment entries etc.
-Develop Curiosity mindset & overseeing transactional level detailed analysis of entries to ensure correctness of VAT treatment as per country specific rules to be adhered.
-Any posting specific discrepancies to be immediately highlighted to Reviewer & Lead accordingly.
-Compiling and ensuring accuracy and timely filing (including sign off and timely payment process) of VAT, customs & excise duty, environmental tax and other related reporting.
-Working closely with stakeholders to ensure compliance with market specific regulatory requirements and legislative changes.
-Regularly informing Reviewers & Team Leader on any issues. Being responsible to flag risks and tax saving opportunities identified during the return preparation and flag unusual or new business scenarios and seek guidance comments on their tax treatment.
-Preparing Balance Sheet Reconciliations via Blackline and ensuring these are done on time and in an internal and external control compliant way. Actively managing Tax document retention for your markets.
-Contributing to the continuous Process improvement ideas - through establishing a LEAN approach to drive effectiveness and efficiency - of the indirect tax compliance processes.
-Adherence to controls and KPI reports, working in line with the implemented KPI-s, investigating root-cause of errors and working with end-to-end processes to improve KPIs. Ensuring 100% CARM and 100% Sox controls accuracy on Indirect Tax related controls.
- Mandatory adherence to Tax Calendar update: To be Filled-in in a timely and quality manner. Promptly responding to market queries in respect of markets in her/his responsibility and supporting tax leaders, business partners, SME-s in non-routine questions, projects, and during tax audits in her/his competency under the supervisory of the Indirect Tax Lead (Team leader).
-Documentations to be kept up-to-date with mirror reflection of as-is process followed currently for the countries & scopes handled respectively.
Candidate Requisites:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Ideally minimum 2-3 years' relevant experience of similar role focused on Indirect taxes/VAT within a multinational environment.
- Previous experience at an operational level in tax, controls and risk management.
- Excellent communication skills able to build strong relationships with operational staff and stakeholders.
Hands-on SAP working experience is an advantage
