Who are we?

Howden is a collective - a group of talented and passionate people all around the world. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 18,000 employees spanning over 100 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities - work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering - you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

About the role

Howden’s Climate Risk & Resilience (CRR) team combines business strategy, risk management, financial markets and climate science expertise to help our clients understand their climate risks, build resilience and use insurance solutions to de-risk their future. This growing, dynamic team is seeking a climate risk analyst / consultant to join them, and someone who has a desire to take their career to the next level. You will have the opportunity to build on your existing experience to work in a client and broker-facing climate advisory team.

Day to day you will have the opportunity to assist our clients in making decisions around their physical (and transition) climate risk management needs. You will help the CRR team to differentiate itself by delivering excellent service to retain existing accounts and help to win new business.

We serve our clients via Howden’s regional broker offices in the UK and across the international regions. What sets us apart is down to us - helping clients better understand their asset and operational risks and developing tailored solutions to build future resilience (adaptation) and derisk their transition to a low carbon economy. You will be expected to support, and in some cases lead, the preparation of client proposals, reports, workshop materials, presentations, and technical summaries - with a focus on physical climate risk and climate change adaptation.

Candidate Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience in climate risk analytics and consulting;
  • Degree or equivalent experience level qualification in sustainability, climate change, physical geography, engineering or other relevant field;
  • Good understanding of climate risk analysis and catastrophe modelling approaches and concepts of climate adaptation solutions desirable;
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to synthesise complex technical documents into decision-useful summaries to a non-technical audience;
  • Knowledge of physical climate scenarios and variables (e.g., IPCC, CMIP5 and CMIP6) as well as an understanding of the functions and outputs from climate models;
  • Good grasp of general risk management approaches and how to embed climate change analysis into an organisation’s risk management framework;
  • Knowledge of some of the key regulatory and reporting frameworks for assessing and disclosing climate-related risks and opportunities desirable;
  • A high level of flexibility and creativity to be able to work with clients from a range of different industries and regions, covering a variety of developing or unknown topics;
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with international, cross-functional teams and clients;
  • Demonstrated ability in time management and proactivity;

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity - there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:
