The role
Orbit is delighted to announce we are recruiting for a Capital Accountant to join our finance team.
This integral role will see you interacting with all levels of the business, from senior stakeholders to our external stakeholders and the wider finance team, delivering an excellent finance service to the business helping us to invest more back into communities.
You will lead and manage the capital accounting team and hold responsibility for the completeness, accuracy and maintenance of Orbit’s £3bn fixed asset register and £0.7bn grant register. You will also manage the assets under construction control accounts (c£0.3bn) undertake bi-annual impairment reviews and ensure the accuracy of component accounting for the capital reinvestment programme.
What you'll achieve
To lead and oversee all balance sheet reconciliations for your team including the reconciliation of the assets under construction control accounts to the development project ledger, the fixed assets register to the general ledger and the reconciliation of the fixed assets and grants register to operational records held in various areas
Preparation of statutory accounts and supporting notes through to completion for legal entities within agreed deadlines
To lead on the preparation of audit schedules and papers for housing properties, grants, work in progress with responsibility for the provision of accurate information and responses to auditor queries in accordance with agreed audit timetables.
To support the production of external regulatory returns
Effectively operate a management framework within which the team is supported and motivated to achieve its objectives in accordance with Orbit Group policies and procedures e.g. performance management, regular high impact 121s, ongoing learning and development etc.What you'll bring
Essential skills
Experience of managing teams of finance staff and delivering outputs to tight deadlines.
A qualified (or part qualified) accountant (CCAB approved accountancy e.g. ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/ICAEW)
Appropriate proven technical capital accounting experience
Previous responsibility for preparing statutory accounts
Problem solving and decision-making skillsDesirable skills
Technical accounting skills with experience of the Housing SORP, the Accounting Direction for social housing and FRS102.Why Orbit?
