Energise your career in the electricity sector. Be part of New Zealand's journey to net-carbon zero and a more sustainable energy future.
Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid - the high voltage transmission network connecting areas of generation with towns and cities across New Zealand. With a whole-of-industry view of the electricity sector, we are at the forefront of the country's pending energy transformation. Our team here at Transpower is working hard to enable a net-zero carbon future.
About the opportunity
You'll be joining our specialist Grid Investment and Modelling team who support infrastructure decision making. The team interfaces and works with a range of other teams nationwide, who collectively manage critical infrastructure assets in excess of $5.5B.
The data you'll work with comes from a variety of market, customer, and internally sourced data outputs to provide us with insights across multiple areas. These include current and future electricity demands, potential generation capability, emerging new energy sources, future pricing, and transmission demands, as well as asset management and hydrology implications and impacts.
Using data provided and working with others, you'll model, analyse, and advise upon future scenarios including:
* transmission network flows
* the impacts of new generation sources
* future consumer demands
* cost constraints on the network
* the impact of power outages
* grid investments and areas of upgrade
* future emission levels
* electricity price forecasts
It's work that matters and makes a difference to all New Zealanders now and well into the future. This role will position you well for career progression into other areas of our business over time with ~30% of our roles are filled internally!
About you
You'll bring proven quantitative data analysis and modelling skills, plus the ability to effectively and clearly communicate your analysis, both visually and in written report form. Working well with others of varying backgrounds and levels, you'll demonstrate great communication skills and curiosity, enjoy learning, and be able to work both in a team setting and independently.
Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate a qualification in a quantitative field e.g. economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or physics as well as solid foundational experience applying simulation and data manipulation software.
