Introduction to the role:

The Risk Manager at Zutari is responsible for overseeing and implementing an enterprise-wide risk management strategy, aligned with ISO 31000, that supports the achievement of business objectives within the regulatory framework. Key responsibilities include developing the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, managing the Group Enterprise Risk Register, facilitating risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with risk values, appetite, and tolerance limits. The role extends to project risk management, developing risk-based tools, and supporting the change management process across Zutari's Africa and ME projects. Additional duties include business resilience management, ensuring continuity processes are in place, and supporting insurance-related functions to ensure appropriate coverage in line with Zutari's risk profile. The Risk Manager will collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization and provide essential risk training at various levels.

Role responsibilities:

Enterprise Risk Management
  • Develop and review of Enterprise Risk Framework design, further development and deployment for Zutari Group
  • Develop and implement the enterprise-wide risk management strategy to ensure the effective achievement of business objectives within the regulatory and legislative framework.
  • Develop and review company's risk management policy and framework in line with ISO 31 000.
  • Facilitate the determination of risk values, risk appetite and risk tolerance limits for use as part of methodology and approval by Board Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Manage, monitor and maintain the Group Enterprise Risk Register, including regular engagement with respective Risk Owners
  • Assist with preparation of reports to C-suite and Board A&R committee.
  • Facilitate the identification and assessments of key risks affecting the achievement of the company's strategic, tactical and operational objectives.
  • Coordinate and implement strategic risk decisions in support of the strategy execution, both at enterprise and operational/project level.
  • Regional & country risk analysis for each of the targeted Regions & Countries
  • Risk and strategy review for key corporate initiatives, risk and governance management training
  • Investigate the implementation of a suitable Risk Information Management System that aligns to the company risk management process.
  • Integration of Enabler Risk function with Combined Assurance team - Internal Audit, QES, H&S and Compliance)
  • Independent risk assurance reviews where required (Governance, Project reviews/audits)
  • Develop and facilitate Risk Management training for executive, operational and project level.

Operational and Project Risk Management
  • Scope and co-ordinate the design of relevant risk management tools that form part of Zutari's Opportunity Management, tender submission and project setup processes.
  • Objective based risk & opportunity management: enabling project teams to achievement project objectives
  • Decision support & opportunity management: Option analysis & proactively managing opportunities & risk
  • Design and establish risk based due-diligence program for new and existing clients
  • Coordinate and implement project risk management across Zutari projects.
  • Assist with the change management process to facilitate the risk culture enhancement on Zutari projects
  • Assistance to CRO with Africa and ME Project Risk Management Committees.
  • Assist with preparation of reports to C-suite and OPSCO's.
  • Facilitate integrated Risk Management training (Risk Champions, line management, project managers and down to appropriate project levels).
  • Where required, assist PE's with establishing and maintaining a project risk management strategy, process and procedures for Projects.
  • Facilitate and lead project risk workshops where required
  • Liaison with key senior stakeholders and executives
  • Ensure integrated deployment of and adherence to the Risk Management Framework throughout the business.

Business Resilience Management
  • Review the CMP and develop an integrated business continuity strategy and Business Continuity Management process and coordinate the implementation of the CMP across regions, offices and units.
  • Ensure that related investment efforts are aligned between business continuity and enterprise risk management.
  • Ensure that adequate training is provided to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the company's insurance strategy and cover is sufficient as it relates the key risk profile of Zutari.
  • Assist with the management of the Group's general and PI Insurance programme


Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in risk management or similar field, post graduate degree is advantageous (Masters or MBA)
  • 8 - 15 years' relevant experience working in business, engineering, law or finance.
  • Extensive experience in risk management
  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and control
  • Deep understanding of the regulatory environment and compliance requirements related to risk management.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive and innovative approach to risk management.
