This role is responsible for leading the Treasury and Trade Solutions ("TTS") and Corporates, Commercial and Public Sector Sales ("CCPS") team in South Africa as well as the Sub-Saharan Africa sub-cluster ("SSA"). As part of this responsibility, the role manages a team of senior professional and is responsible for driving the business and client strategy, new business development, product innovation, client experience, delivery of the financial plans and maintaining a robust risk and controls environment for TTS in South Africa and SSA. The successful candidate will work closely with TTS Global and Cluster stakeholders as well as partners in Banking and International and will be accountable to the Head of MEA TTS & CCPS for the end-to-end delivery and oversight of the TTS business. The incumbent will also be part of the South Africa Management Committee and the SSA Operating Committee.
Key responsibilities
- Client Strategy
- Champion Client engagement within South Africa and SSA and focus on growing the client relationship partnering closely with Banking and regional TTS Sales.
- Drive customer segmentation, product positioning, pricing, and marketing plans for each client segment. Own senior TTS sponsorship for top client relationships.
- Increase penetration of the Bank's services within the existing client base as well as acquiring new clients for the Bank.
- Lead the CCPS clients' sales origination, pipeline development, customer revenue growth and retention.
- Manage a team with a defined portfolio of CCPS clients, with product and sector expertise, responsible for new cross-sell and retention, in addition to managing a team of product/ solution sales.
- Trusted Advisor to CCPS clients for complex cash management, treasury and working capital, and trade services.
- Own client experience and work with key partners across Banking, TTS Sales, Onboarding, Service and Operations.
- Product Strategy
- Drive product strategy, investment, execution of key product enhancements, and superior product delivery.
- Leverage Market intelligence to shape TTS strategy.
- Internal Stakeholder Engagement
- Drive alignment with internal stakeholders, including CCOs and Banking to deliver the global network to the client.
- Financial Objectives
- Create and deliver a multi-year financial plan tied to key drivers and existing and potential customers. Achieve targets set for revenues, expenses, EBIT, balance sheet, headcount, as well as appropriate ratios such as efficiency ratios, Return on Assets, Return on Tangible Common Equity, RLAP etc.
- Risk & Controls
- Maintain a strong risk and control culture & practice across the TTS team. Maintain a pristine controls environment and lead key activities such as regulatory interaction, Issue & CAP management, MCA, Continuity of Business etc.
- Work closely with second and third line partners (Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance) to ensure strong engagement with TTS, and partner with them to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure?
- Build a culture of responsible finance, good governance and supervision, expense discipline and ethics.
- Appropriately assess risk/reward of transactions when making business decisions; and ensure that all team members understand the need to do the same, demonstrating proper consideration for the firm's reputation.

- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
- Market and Regulatory Advocacy:
- Formulate strategy around external engagement with appropriate regulatory bodies, market infrastructures, central banks, and other industry bodies in South Africa and SSA.
- Drive Citi's agenda and desired outcomes.
- Country Management Governance:
- As TTS country head, ensure strong representation in key management and governance committees such as the Management Board, Country Coordination Committees, ALCO, BRCC and other local forums.
- As TTS sub-cluster head, ensure strong representation in key management and governance committees established on SSA level.
- Legal Entity Governance:
- Ensure the TTS business operates within the framework prescribed for Citigroup legal entities in South Africa and across SSA and follow all required legal entity policies, procedures and regulations.
- People & Culture:
- Execute on the talent strategy within South Africa and SSA, taking a critical review of organizational requirements and optimum structure.
- Promote an inclusive and ethical culture, drive diversity and including, and oversee team development plans.
- Hire talented individuals to deliver the TTS strategy within South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa sub-cluster.

Person specification:
Knowledge - Experience/ Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience, including 10+ years' managerial experience
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of and other banking products
- Advanced marketing and selling skills & 'customer first' mind-set
- Proven track record in sale of cash management, trade, and / or technology based consulting solutions
- Managed large client relationship from a banking or product perspective
- Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Persuasive and articulate personality
- Excellent interpersonal skills to deal internally and externally with clients
- Good team skills
- Demonstrated organizational & planning skills
- Ability to manage & synthesize many pieces of solution / technical data into a single, flowing solution within tight timeline

Education:
- Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred; managerial experience
