SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UKs electricity network and in doing so power the UKs net zero ambition. Our business is rapidly growing, in order to deliver the largest investment package that Scotlands electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years.
As Climate Strategy Manager, you are responsible for developing and maintaining SSEN Transmissions strategy for reducing its business carbon emissions in line with science-based targets in addition to preparing Climate Strategy, carbon data and reporting.
The responsibilities of the Climate Strategy Manager include:
- To develop and maintain SSEN Transmissions Climate Strategy to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with best practice and ensuring alignment with the latest voluntary and mandatory requirements on transition plan disclosures.
- Act as SSEN Transmissions subject matter expert on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and decarbonisation strategies.
- To work with colleagues across SSEN Transmission to prepare and implement an annual action plan to deliver the Climate Strategy and contribute to working groups and decarbonisation initiatives across the business.
- To report on SSEN Transmissions GHG emissions performance contributing to annual sustainability reporting, and meeting climate disclosure and non-financial reporting requirements.
- To be an advocate with stakeholders externally and internally on SSEN Transmissions sustainability ambition and performance, and enhance SSEN Transmissions reputation and visibility.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Experience of the analytical and organisational techniques for strategy development, including medium to long term (5-10 years) sectoral foresighting, and implementation.
- Expertise in GHG emissions reduction planning and accounting principles.
- A demonstrable understanding of the energy industry and working knowledge of regulated markets.
- Proven adaptability in building cross discipline working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to positively influence Climate strategy within the wider SSEN Transmission team.
- A passion for sustainability, driving innovation mixed with an ability to find solutions within a diverse engineering-focused organisation.
