Key qualifications and experience for the Head of Credit Control:
- Professional accounting qualification: CIMA or ACCA preferred
- Proven experience in credit control management, preferably within a professional services or accountancy environment
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Key duties for the Head of Credit Control include but are not limited to:
- Credit Control Leadership
- Oversee daily credit control operations to ensure timely and accurate receivables collection
- Develop and implement strategies to improve the credit control process and reduce overdue accounts while managing team resources effectively
- Credit Risk Management
- Evaluate client creditworthiness through reviews and credit checks, establishing appropriate credit limits
- Regularly update credit control policies to align with company objectives and monitor high-risk accounts, collaborating with internal teams to address potential risks
- Debt Collection
- Create efficient debt collection processes to decrease overdue debts and debtor days
- Negotiate payment plans with clients as necessary and ensure timely payments
- Review aged debt reports frequently, addressing disputes and payment issues promptly
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, sales teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless credit control operations
- Work closely with the finance department on cash flow management and reporting, providing senior management with regular updates on debtor performance and credit risk
- Team Management
- Lead and inspire a team of credit controllers by setting clear objectives and conducting performance reviews
- Identify training needs and keep the team updated on the latest credit control practices, fostering a positive environment focused on continuous improvement
- Reporting & Analysis
- Generate regular reports on key credit metrics, including debtor days and overdue balances
- Analyse trends to provide insights for decision-making on credit policies and risk management, ensuring accurate tracking of bad debt write-offs and provisions
- Compliance & Legal
- Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards related to credit control
- Collaborate with legal teams on debt recovery actions and initiate legal proceedings as necessary
