Description

Position Summary

Retail Rebel is seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to help build and oversee all key aspects of our company’s accounting processes. You will lead process improvements to ensure the delivery of high-quality, GAAP-compliant financial statements, and streamline, well-documented internal administrative processes. You will also coordinate across various departments, including warehouse operations, procurement, inventory management, payroll / HR, and IT. This role requires full ownership of the company’s general ledger, financial, and tax administration, in partnership with appropriate external experts.

Requirements  

Job Responsibilities

  • Accounting Policy Enforcement: Ensure consistent application of accounting policies and assist in developing additional policies, as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Partner with supply chain colleagues to ensure ERP-based inventory management system accurately reflects inventory positions, payment applications, prepaids, and inventory in transit.
  • Oversee State Compliance: Manage all state registrations, annual reporting requirements, and registered agent activities and associated payments.
  • Document Management: Organize and maintain all financial documents in a data room, ensuring easy access and retrieval.
  • Financial Reporting: Generate and pull monthly financial reports and data for the leadership team, including bank statements, monthly reports, and other data.
  • Insurance and Contract Management: Assist with insurance oversight and organize contract management, updating contracts as renewal periods arise.
  • Corporate and Sales Tax Management: Schedule and make all corporate tax and quarterly estimated tax payments in partnership with outside tax counsel. Reconcile monthly sales tax remittances and ensure all tax payments have cleared. Communicate with the CPA on tax notices.
  • Treasury Management: Maintain AP / AR aging schedules, pay all invoices including month-end consignment calculations, credit cards, and taxes on time. Process checks, ACH payments, and other disbursements.
  • Payroll Processing: Support the hiring process, onboard and offboard employees, and monitor state compliance. Update and process biweekly payroll, track employee PTO, and administer benefit plans.
  • HR Administration: In partnership with HR, handle state payroll and SUI tax accounts, annual and periodic 401k reporting, and yearly filings and postings. Monitor workers’ compensation policies and maintain employee files.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or related field
  • Very comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment and building out systems, tools, and processes from the ground up 
  • High proficiency in complex Excel functions and large data sets (i.e. pivot tables, V/X lookups, large data organization)
  • 5+ years of ERP-based inventory management experience
  • 10+ years in an accounting role
  • 5+ years of multi-locations consumer retail

Preference May be Given to:

  • CPA license
  • Inventory liquidation, retail close-out and/or e-commerce industry experience
