Fire Prevention Officer - Patterson Grade C4

An exciting opportunity exists at King Shaka International Airport for experienced Fire Prevention Officer within the Airport Management Division.

Key Performance Output

The successful candidate, reporting to the Assistant Manager Fire and Rescue will be responsible for the following:
  • Ensure compliance to aviation legislative requirements (CAA - Civil Aviation Authority, ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization, and Municipal by laws).
  • Ensure the buildings comply with legislation, signage, escape routes, fire extinguishers, hose reels as per SANS
  • Analysis of current systems and improvement thereof where required.
  • Ensure regular site visits and inspections with staff
  • Conduct training on fire prevention
  • Develop and maintain a fire prevention plan
  • Ensure that all fire equipment is serviceable.
  • Produce monthly reports on Fire Prevention status
  • Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers etc.) relationships and implement remedial actions where required to ensure achievement of organisational goals and enhance emergency response preparedness.
  • Maintain appropriate level of interaction with airport stakeholders

Technical Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such will be required:
  • Diploma in Relevant (Fire Prevention is Essential
  • 3 years operational Fire and Rescue is Essential.
  • Be able to read/ Interpret plans.
  • Fire Fighter1 and 2
  • Hazmat Awareness
  • Hazmat Operations
  • Drivers License
